CD/DVD will not eject

Guys I tried to put a cd into my Mac last night and it seems there is a cd inthere. Ther is no icon on the desktop to indicate a cd in the reader. I have also tried ejecting through DVD also. All help greatly appreciated Nanook

Guys

Restart with the mouse button pressed ( dont release until you hear eject mechanism engaging ).
