Hey guys not sure if this is serious enough for PI but feel free to move it Mods
So time is running out for my LC and I'm studying like mad yet everytime I really get into it I fall asleep!! I spoke to my GP he said it was psychological, et gave me nothing to help.
Does anyone have any exp. with this and could anyone reccommend a way to keep myself awake.
    Homeopathic if possible.
    Thanks

Your GP already told you. It's psychological. Chill the **** out.

Before I even got to that sentence, there were alarm bells ringing in my head. Time is not "running out". Contrary to what your parents/teachers/whoever might tell you - and you need to listen to this very carefully - the leaving cert is NOT the be-all and end-all. Life goes on afterwards and about 3 days after you get your results, you'll probably forget about the bloody thing anyway.

You need to keep some perspective. Calm down and study as much as is necessary. If you wreck your head about it, you'll be a wreck. Or asleep. Anyone/everyone here who's done the LC will tell you the same.

I think Nervous Wreck said some very wise things. Your original post does have a tone of anxiety about it. Some people do feel the LC is the be all and end all.
Sit somewhere that's not too cosy, like on a kitchen chair at a table in a room that's got plenty of fresh air. Cups of coffee and If you're really struggling, Red Bull may help. Try to get to bed at a decent time...and remember an hour before midnight is worth two after.

Years ago I would have been the exact same as you around exam time. It was like I was in a coma! Just couldn't get enough sleep. For me it was definitely psychological-I was using sleep to block out and deny all the feelings of panic I was having. Now I realise that the best way to deal with a feeling is to acknowledge it and face it head on!

What worked for me back then was trying to stick to a routine, eating well and getting exercise. Getting exercise definitely gives you more energy.

I can recommend an excellent homeopath who helped with my tendency to procrastinate about these things-PM me if you want her details. Or if you are in Dublin go into Nelson's (down one of those side streets near Marks and Spencer on Grafton St) and they should be able to advise you.

    Best of luck!!!

If you are falling asleep I take it you are sitting up in bed studying? Bad move HH. Sit in a brightly lit room which is slightly below room temperature. Give yourself regular breaks and ALLOW yourself naps if you're that tired rather than just falling asleep. Orange oil is a good general stimulating essential oil as is rosemary (good for memory) so having an oil burner on the go should probably help too. Good luck with the exams.

i am studying my ass off at the moment

i was having the same problems, a few weeks ago. i decided my body was just fecked, so i took 3 nights away from the studying and just relaxed and it worked a treat.

you are feeling asleep because your body is tired and needs a break.

i am doing great, having said that the chest and sinus infection i have at the moment arent really help but again, i took two days off and done absolutely nothing but vegged on the sofa.

your body is telling you something - listen to it
