Seems a lot of people (I don't think I've ever seen them mentioned here on boards!) don't really know too much about these guys, which I think is an absolute shame, so I'm going to try to get the word out.

If you like The Decemberists, Bright Eyes/Conor Oberst and a bit of Bob Dylan, you'll probably like these guys. They're on the Saddle Creek label, which houses some lovely current quality indie bands. A bit alt-country, a bit indie, a bit old fashioned, but top lyrics and sense of rhythm and melody.

I recommend getting The Scenery of Farewell and their self titled albums as a start, some incredible songs on them, the majority of each is hard to put down. What The Toll Tells has Steady Rollin' on it, which is definitely a fantastic song worth a listen.

Go and check them out. Totally underrated.

I went to see them play the Roisin Dubh in 2007. Just got to see one half of them, as the drummer couldn't get out of the US or something. 'Twas still a great gig. Great band, love their sound.
