Drawing Day 2009 will take place on Saturday 23rd May 2009 where many locations across the country will open their doors to allow visitors to sketch and draw the contents. Some places have special activities organised:

The National Print Museum will open its doors on Saturday 23rd of May for Drawing Day 2009. Free admission for budding artists all day offers the opportunity to draw some of the unique objects on display in the Museum.

This free nationwide event encourages adults and children to draw in a relaxed environment. Artist Graínne Dowling will facilitate a special drawing workshop for adults at 2pm until 4pm. Children and families are welcome but must be supervised at all times. Drawing materials and children’s worksheets will be available on the day.

    Saturday 23rd May 2009, 11.00am - 5.00pm.
    Admission free

Do you have information about what locations will be opening their doors?
Aren't museums and the like free anyway?

Kilkenny Castle will be taking part [via the butler gallery located in the Castle] There will be a bunch of drawing projects happening around the grounds of the Castle.

Not all Museums and Galleries can afford free admission, in fact most in Ireland have an entrance fee apart from the National Museum of Ireland's four locations and the National Gallery but they recieve state funding so are in the lucky position that they dont need to charge an admission fee. And there are very few places that offer workshops for free which is why its a big deal on days like Drawing Day for these organisations to run events free of charge for the public (at a cost to themselves.)

The idea of Drawing Day was established by the National Gallery (bizarrely on a different date to International Drawing Day) so I've just pulled the list from their website:
