I'm almost finished watching: Joe Egan's Toughest Men on the Planet.

I was wondering if anyone has seen it? It's quite possibly the most cringing
dvd I have ever seen. To Joe, everyone is the greatest fighter of all time.

    Anyone see it? Views?

Joe is a great character, but his tongue is a little too far
up some of these guys arese!

Can anyone verify if Joe Egan ever fought Bruce Seldon?

Joe is on the DVD talking with Jake LaMotta and Joe says that
he met Lamotta 18 years previous in a night dedicated
to Jake and that he fought Seldon and got busted
up in round 1 but came back to win.

Now, was this an amateur bout?

There is no record of Seldon ever having fought
Joe as a pro, not on Joe's boxrec entry or Bruce's
    boxrec entry.

Okay, just found out that it was in the AMs and it
was Eire vs. USA in 1984 in America.

    Apologies Joe

So, if he never fought him, that is one really arrogant lie
    to tell.

Okay, just found out that he did beat Seldon
in 1984 for Eire vs. USA in the AMs

Apologies Joe, and a great win!

No way, Joe also boxed Lewis in 1985
in the AMs and lost on points. Amazing!

Yes he fought Bruce Sheldon as an am, USA v Ireland. I could tell you some funny Joe Egan Stories. But more laughing at him than with him so I won't.

Joe is a great character and what a life he has had so far.
The DVD is very informative and Joe has met
so many people and made so many friends; but the DVD is
so cringing. It's all about name dropping and arse licking.

At times I nearly had to switch it off it was
    so embarrassing.

The part where Ray Leonard visits Ireland
is very good, but so OTT on the hero
worship. Joe milks it and even Ray looks
    embarrassed!

    It's definitely worth a look.

Some names on it are Dunne, Collins, Peter's
Benn, Ian Wright, John Barnes, Richard Dunn, Jimmy
White, Jim Rock and many more.

Joe's limo driver is Gerard Hutch. He is in it
    quite a bit:o

a VERY embarrassing thing i seen one time via "BIG Joe" and you might have seen it regarding Hutch, when they were escorting Iron Mike to the famous white hummer some security guard probably over awed by Mike's presence told a reporter who got a bit close "ye see that" showing the dude his fist " i'll f$£'n put dat tro ya". Ok the lad might not have been experienced put Joe was standing next to him he could have given the lad a wink or a nod or a hand on his shoulder to say it's ok relax mate. Although the guy probobly paid Joe about 200£ so he could say after " I bodyguarded Iron Mike Tyson".
I like Big Joe, he gives it a go.

Complete nob head that guy was. It was hardly like Mike was in any danger.
He was surrounded by tons of burly brutes.

The scene where Joe is praising Ray was so bad; Ray didn't know where
to look. It was one-one with a reporter and it was in a pub in
    Sligo.

When asked why Ray was such a great fighter, Egan had feck all to say.
"He's great because he's great," he sort of said:rolleyes:

Like, c'mon, versatility, speed, power, ring smarts, chin and the ability to out slug the sluggers and out box the boxers. He didn't touch on any of this obvious stuff.

The DVD is full of stuff and keeps you well interested, but it was
just so so so OTT, that I think it spoiled it a little.

Every famous person Joe introduced was the "Greatest"
All them! It was so predictable
