I'm trying to buy a Samsung R610 from dabs.ie. I was paying through paypal and have answered a few emails today e.g. what is your relationship to the address. I got this as my last email
    Dear Mr XXXXX

Thank you for your email confirming you address

Unfortunately on this occasion we require proof of your address, in the form of a bank statement.

This can be either attached to your email reply or faxed to 0870 429 7221, please include your order number on the fax.

Please be aware that this could delay your order for a further 24 hours.

I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused.

    Yours faithfully,

Is this normal for dealing with them?

BOI don't give statements in PDF and it usually takes 2-3 days to get one. I don't have proper access to a fax and I'm not really sure i want to give them my bank account details as well.

Looks dodgy, I hope you did'nt access paypal through an email you received .

That is not how paypal confirm an address . It is usually done through a number received with your credit card.

    Ring paypal immediately

well it wasn't paypal confirming the address. I've had my paypal account ages. Dabs wanted to confirm my address with a bank statement. They asked me questions in emails today about was the delivery address the correct address for the credit card and what my relationship to it was.

you're paying upfront (not on finance) and they require proof of address!?

i'd be taking my business elsewhere. what, they don't trust you to give your real postal address?

Dabs have a well known history of been heavy handed with security checks...Dabs will be the first online retailer to require a DNA sample just to access their website.
Was about to order from them last year...got asked to jump through hoops...so I gave my money to Overclockers and Komplett. Haven't even looked at Dabs website since!

same thing happened to me when i ordered a laptop off them and i was paying with a credit card. they were asking all sorts of questions for 'verification' and it was actually farmed out to a 3rd party company, so i wasn't even speaking to dabs.

i got so fecked off with them in the end i threatened to cancel my order and write them an uber snotty email and they caved in and shipped it in the end, but it's the last time i'll use them.

after reading that thread, i cancelled my order. I checked the email address and it was a third party saying they're are Dabs webaccounts.

Report it to dabs immediately. They'd like to know and I mean if it was a third party then technically it wasnt their fault.
