    Vuze (download client).

When starting a new download of say 5GB Vuze will automatically take up 5GB of hard drive even when only 5% of the download is completed.

Is there any setting in Vuze so that it will only use up as much of the hard drive as has actually been downloaded?

Look for the file allocation settings.

I imagine changing to what you want there would cause massive file fragmentation and lower performance, especially if you have multiple downloads running concurrently.
