Cheap car insurance 25plus.ie and its4women.ie

Just changed my car insurers after 22 years because I got an amazing quote from this company and saved almost €100, on what was a pretty low quote in the first place:
    25plus.ie
    its4women.ie

They are only in operation for a few weeks but they are brokers for AIG (who have been around FOR EVER), so the policies aren't even slightly dubious. Don't reckon they will be this much cheaper for ever, but get it while it's going...

Was more expensive than other sites for me although I'm just 25 this year.

They may just be pitching for the older, low risk market so (that happens), but still, amazing savings to be had if you fit the right profile.

Yeah the main reason my quote ends up being so high compared to other sites is my car is worth a fair bit less than 10,000 euro I think.

    Trust me...so is mine...

They may be cutting prices to the bone for the lowest possible risk groups (like older women with smaller engined cars), to get a market share, and making it up on higher risk groups?

I'm not having a dig OP, but if you haven't changed insurers in 22 years, you have missed out on discounted premiums that have been around for a while. Check every year and be prepared to move each time. It is a buyers market for anyone over 25 with a full bonus and clear record. Just because this new company saved you a lot this year, doesn't mean they will be cheapest next year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,776 ✭✭✭podge3

Be very careful with this lot.

I almost changed to them last March as they did give a good quote. However on reading their online policy document I found this:

Section 7 – Driving Other Cars
If your Certificate permits you to drive a car that is:
    a) not owned by you, a member of your family or your employer

I had never seen this limitation on any other policy so I rang Customer Services. The very helpful lady told me that this could not possibly be the case. She had to eat humble pie when I directed her to the page and section number.

Personally, this was a deal breaker for me. I rarely if ever drive other peoples cars but I occasionally drive family members cars. I'm sure many others are the same.

So you do need to read the small print, as they say.

That's my point, I have checked every year (should have stressed this), and honestly never found a big enough difference to be worth switching before (usually there would be a couple of pounds in it and not worth the bother), but this is an huge difference even to the next lowest quote I could get.

I am actually saving nearly e100 and upgrading to fully comp, with windscreen cover.

50% more than quinn-direct very hard for me to beat them at 25

There is something odd about it because I know I am not allowed to drive a car belonging to anyone at the same address...but "family" isn't an issue for me as mother won't let me touch her Skoda as long as there is breath in her body (like I WANT to?)...:D

Also, I am really sorry other people have got such disappointing quotes from them...I just had SUCH an amazing quote myself (e30 less than Quinn Direct).

FBD and AA both did for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,123 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

Personally got a good deal at nononsense.ie, which beat Quinn-Direct for me.
Quinn were raising my premium, despite that it was going to be my 3rd year with them, so shopped around and found they were cheaper.

Don't seem to be able to get anywhere from the "quote" link on that 25plus.ie site!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6 drinkfeck

I just saved €130 with 25plus! Had been with FBD for 4 years, had no claims. My car is a 98 Ford Ka, 1.3L petrol engine. I'm in my early 30s and have a clean licence. They are based in the north, another example of our 'rip-off republic' I suppose!

    Ha,they wudnt quote me!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,392 ✭✭✭TequilaMockingBird

    Wouldn't quote me either.

I went with www.brittoninsurance.ie in the end, €300 cheaper than the cheapest other quote I could get.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,378 ✭✭✭✭jimmycrackcorm

No quote for me either. Not a problem anywhere else.

It is www.brittoninsurance.com actually. The .ie doesn't exist and is available to buy if anyone is interested :p

It was competitive I'll give it that but not the cheapest for me, not far off though.

For some reason increasing voluntary excess made no difference to the quote from me. It started with none and increasing that to 1,000 made no difference to the quote which seemed weird for me. I think that part of the form must be broken or something.

Cancel your insurance and they'll send you a refund pro rata (although you'll lose this years NCB if you still have it!)

Just went with britton. Current insurer (insure.ie) quoted me €618. Britton quoted me €345. Happy days! :D Im 27 by the way!:D

Went with these guys, after getting a quote for 469....previous insurer was looking for 592, Personally i'd recommed waiting till near close of business on saturday, or any day cos they are more eager to sell before close of business(this is what i experienced anyway)(times are on the website) first quote from them was 512, but i rang back just before close of business on saturday and told them i had better(492) so they beat it by 23 yo'yo's......

i love it when a plan comes together!

I've always wondered what the story is from a legal standpoint is with its4women and other similar insurers

If I rang asking for a quote, and they refused to, could that not be seen as descrimination against men?

Good question, afaik the discrimination was against age i.e your under 25 we refuse to quote you due to age.
no company is allowed decline a quote on age anymore.
I stand to be corrected though.

Car insurance due for renewal next month. Anyone have any good deals? Heard that all policies are going up anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,220 ✭✭✭cojomo2

in my experience, 25plus.ie are pretty rubbish...

I joined them a year ago, fully com, with an additional names driver on a provisional , fully insured ncb 460 euro..good price, so I took it.

Just got my renewal, I now have an extra years NCB, my named driver has a full license, same car..renewal now at 580..jokers..I rang them and the just said 'insurance prices have gone up''

Rang around everywhere, got the exact same cover and more(limited business use included) for 316 euro off Tesco insurance.

    Try Tesco..

I have been with 25plus for a few years because they were much cheaper than anyone else for me.
I had a crash a couple of months ago and I must say I don't have anything bad to say about them. Service was good.
That opinion may change though when I renew next year.

for just4women and 25plus (they are the same crowd) and indeed any insurance company, you need to check what their exclusions are, and be sure of them yourself. My hubby is not an Irish national and many companies will not allow me to add him to my insurance until he is a permanent resident here for 2 years (some companies its 3, others 5). I knew this from a friend who works in insurance, but on every quote I got I asked if he would be covered and explicitly made it clear that he was here only 1 year. Several companies quoted me, told me it wouldn't be a problem, and each of them I asked for this in writing.....lo and behold, most of them came back later to say, actually, erm, no he's not covered. Had I just gone ahead with the quote and paid there and then, I would have had invalid insurance should I ever need to claim.

At no point did any company ask me about residency - other than to ask if I was a permanent Irish residence. None of them asked about hubby, eventhough I wanted to name him on the policy.

in the small print of many companies, even Irish people who have not resided permanently in the country for 3 years are excluded, so if you were living anywhere else you would not be covered. They will not ask this explicitly, you are responsible for checking these details. And note, for many its Irish residence, not EU residence....

My friend said that this is how many non nationals believe they are covered for insurance, only to find out that in the case of an accident their policy is declared invalid as they did not disclose this info when they took the policy - even though they were not asked this!

I just thought it was worth mentioning, since Ireland is now so diverse and also since the recession, people are working outside of Ireland for periods etc.

I got quoted back in March - I have the email here from them confirming that residence requirement for hubby is 3 years continuous residence.

I tried them both and they were both over €100 more than AXA who were the cheapest.
One thing I will say is read the conditions, there's some serious restrictions on some.

Axa in Galway knocked about 70 odd euro off my renewal, Lady in Woodquay told me to join up with the local credit union and I would save 70 Euros!.
I nipped across town joined up with the credit union and rang axa back to renew, was pretty painless. Funnily enough the renewal quote from Axa before the credit union discount was beating all the online quotes I tried.

My quinn renewal was 468. Shopped around online, 25plus came in with best quote at 319. But when i entered a valid club card into my tesco quote it came in fully comp at 272. Brilliant quote with the usual extras included.

Tesco seems to be the best availiable these days, and their value cover includes more than most other places premium one. i'm 20 yr old male with 2yr named driver ncb (still on provisional :S) and i got quoted €929 for a 1.3l civic

AA have been the cheapest for us for a while but Allianz have a special offer for people that hold annual commuter tickets so they were the cheapest this year and extremely reasonable for house insurance.

Car Insurance rocketed this year, and house insurance went up but by a lesser %.

Residence is 185 days. Not 3 years.

Is that not just the definition of residency for tax purposes? I'd say insurance companies seem to me to be a law unto themselves in this country...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,430 ✭✭✭bladespin

25plus was close to double my current insurer's premium, 123.ie. Tesco came back with a cheaper quote than 123 just now :D

    Nope,

Its for everything, even the RSA have it as a requirement for getting a driving license:

    http://www.rsa.ie/RSA/Learner-Drivers/Finding-an-Instructor/How-to-apply/
    Normal residence in Ireland

Being ‘normally resident’ in Ireland means you live here for at least 185 days in each calendar year. Even where you work or study abroad for lengthy periods you may still be regarded as being normally resident in Ireland provided that you have personal ties in Ireland and return here regularly.

hi guys, like alot here tesco have come back with the best quote of 280 for me! was with quinn (since day one) but they sent out a renewal for 771  despite it being 500 last year (no claims) so they can go jump, thats loyalty for you i guess!! anyway basically just wanting to know if tesco insurance is ok? have read a few indifferent reviews

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,332 ✭✭✭tatli_lokma

    Nope,

Its for everything, even the RSA have it as a requirement for getting a driving license:

    http://www.rsa.ie/RSA/Learner-Drivers/Finding-an-Instructor/How-to-apply/

what you are quoting is that in order to get licence etc you must be normally resident in the country for 185 days of any given year.
The difference is, that many insurance companies, as part of their T&C stipulate that not only must you qualify this condition, you must also have been in permanent residence in Ireland for the last x many years. So in my case, my hubby would have had to have spent 185 days of each calendar year in Ireland, for the last 3 years. He hasn't. therefore its4women and several others wouldn't allow him even on my policy as a named driver, let alone in his own name.
We are now with Axa, and whilst not the cheapest, they weren't that much more given the additional benefit of having hubby insured, plus we have a two car policy so can maintain the NCB on both cars.
