Northern Irelands National Anthem

When Ireland plays rugby we have to use "Irelands Call" as our anthem to have a neutral and all inclusive anthem for the Island of Ireland, about 1/6 of which are protestant.

So why is it that the Northern Ireland soccer team use "God save the queen"?
Surely this would be offending and excluding 1/2 of the population of the north from singing an anthem.

Wales use "Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau".
    Scotland use "Flower of Scotland"

So why doesn't the north have its own anthem that can be sang by both Catholics and Protestants?

Well really it doesn't matter as the only Catholics at a Northern Ireland soccer match would be from the opposing team or its supporters.

guess what, England also sing God Save the Queen and there's Catholics there as well

What exactly has religion got to do with national anthems:confused:

irish rugby use Irelands call because it is an all Ireland sport, Northern Ireland use GSTQ because it is Northern Ireland only. Geddit?

    That's about it.

The IFA don't seem to bothered about integration and the nationalists up there don't seem too worried either.

So Catholics in the north don't support the Northern Ireland team?

Are there any Catholics playing on it?

The 4 nation's competition next year should be interesting, considering when Scotland played NI last year God Save the Queen was booed.

If the north's support is solely prods I'd say there will be serious trouble around Dublin when we play them.

It has no national anthem because it isn't a country, its a province of the United Kingdom.

well actually it has its own parliament just like Wales and Scotland so in theory it could be its own country..
As to the Anthem most NI supporters are loyalists and they'd probably kill themselves before they'd allow it to be changed...

    Quick change the anthem.:pac:

For soccer England and Northern Ireland both use GSTQ, as do Lichtenstein and somewhere else that I've now forgotten... OK so it's just the same tune with different words, but anyway....

For the Commonwealths though England tend to use Land of Hope and Glory, or Jerusalem I think, but what do Northern Ireland use then, is it still GSTQ?

Religion has everything got to do with everything in the north.

Ok change prods to unionists or loyalists and the argument still stands.

GSTQ is a loyalist song which Catholic's (nationalists) obviously despise.

Because they would probably get Nadine Coyle to write and sing it...

The tune is called Londonderry Air. there are several versions but the Danny Boy version is the most common and the one used by NI.

What would the north do if it became overrun by muslims lol?
Would there be 3 sides fighting then. Speaking hypothetically!

This religion thing is really really really tiring!

Where did you get that from? Long history of Catholics playing for the team. Supporters predominately Protestant though I'd say

Having been privileged enough to have viewed a number of thrilling ladies from numerous areas of the British Isles in the nip (mostly on TV) I have to say I adore the London derriere.

    /leaves thread.

    Yup.

Fair few have chosen to play for the South though instead recently. Think the Neil Lennon stuff really fúcked the team's reputation amongst Northern Catholics.

    Shame really.
