    Hi Pandas,
i assume you will be flying to Faro? Alvor is quite a drive and I haven't een there. Albufeira is closer to Faro and much more touristy for your age group - full of clubs, pubs, lager louts etc.
If you are looking a bit more upmarket then have a look at Vilamoura. This is probably 30 minutes from Faro, good craic and not as bad as Albufeira

hi pandas, was there myself3-4 years ago.
a small quiet fishing village, more suited to a relaxing holiday if that's what you're after....
AFAIR the good beach is a mile outside town too, memory is a bit hazy on that one though....

Ooopps Pandas, you were sold a doozie of a location for 6 college girls to have fun.

Very sleep relaxed village. You will be getting taxis to Praia do Rocha quite a lot.

There are a few bars but nothing like a resort and some fairly ok restaurants. There is a nice golf course if that takes the fancy of 6 college girls.

Also, and this you might like, the nearest town, Portimao, is filled with shoe shops.

    10 mins and probably €10+

Get Google Earth and zoom down into the area and see for yourself.

Here is a picture of Google Earth showing the distance from Alvor to Praia do Rocha
