vhs to dvd. can anyone help?

I recently copied a recorded programme from vhs onto a dvd-r disc, on a vhs/dvd combo recorder. However, the disc plays on that player and not on my own dvd player, even though my dvd player can play dvd-r discs. the recorded disc wont load and just says 'wrong disc'. any suggestions? thanks.

did you finalise the recording session?
sometimes those dvd recorders require that you finalise it otherwise they disk won't play on any other machine...
