Hi all, my NCT is up and i went to book a test last week but to no avail. I'm just after getting through to them and i cant get my test untill July 28th in Monaghan.

I asked if i moved it to another centre would it be quicker and the lady said that July was very good and that most counties were running well into August already.

I was just wondering what effect this will have on Garda enforcement, should i just take the letter with me when i'm driving or what?

I've been told that because there is a huge back-log (thanks to idiots not having their cars NCT'd scared about the 5 penalty points they will be getting) that it is ok to produce the letter if stopped by the gardai.

Presuming your car has four wheels and all that.

I had the same problem last year - the test centre in Limerick was booked out for months. I went through several checkpoints and the guards never asked about it. It's not our fault that they can't deal with the numbers and we shouldn't have to go out of our way to book at a test centre elsewhere etc.

Had same problem today so hopefully the letter will be good enough. Cant believe that my NCT isn't due to expire till end of June and I rang all last week on the 412413 number and the message just says sorry lines are busy call back later. I usualy arrange the test 2 months before it expires but maybe next time i'll try 6 months. After 10 days of trying to book online and over the phone tried the 1890 200670 number and got throught eventually to someone. NCT test is booked for early august in Fontill. Jeez hope they'll be lenient seeing as there are going to be quite a few out of date beore they clear the backlog.

Once you book the NCT, do they send you out a letter then, to confirm the booking. I haven't received any letter. I was told that it will be the middle of August before I get called. My NCT is out next month.

my NCT is up at the end of this month and like so many others I've been trying to get through to make a booking but struggling..

So question is, if I have a letter from the NCT saying I have it booked in am I covered as its hardly my fault if its gonna take 2 months before they can fit me in to test my car is it??

Cancellations are released onto the online system in bulk - I forget what time of day it's done but I was able to get a cancellation for this week about two weeks ago.

Otherwise, take whatever date you can get and print out your email for any Garda that may stop you.

Will a Garda accept this? If so that would be great..
