What are your opinions on an Audi A4 - 1999, 1.6.

It's NCT'd until next year. I'm getting it at a good price (2k) but I'm not sure what they're like. Are they good to drive, anything I should look out for when test driving etc?

    Thanks

Nothing special really, the 1.6 isn't a great engine, and the A4 is dull to drive. Cramped in the back, if that's important. It'll do the job alright, 2k is a little steep though, better buy at 1500.

Really, I though 2k was a good price looking at them on autotrader etc.

Hm, well if it's not a good price I couldn't be bothered getting it or even bargaining over it.

I certainly don't want a dull car - hence I'm selling my peugeot a month after buying it.

I'm now on my 3rd Audi and IMO, VWs and Audis are very overpriced for what you're getting in basic spec. It's well priced but still not worth it. They are supposed to be a premium car but this one has poverty spec. Like most German cars in Ireland an A4, to make sense IMO should be something along the lines of 1.8T Quattro sport as a minimum. Ideally with leather etc

This one sounds sounds like an Ireland special.

    Which Peugeot is it?

Dont go for the 1.6, its not suited to the car as its crap and slow. Get a 1.8T or even a diesel (depending what you like)

Peugeot is a 206 - lovely little car but no good for what i need it for.

Right you guys have sucessfully put me off the Audi :D now i need to find another car for less than 2k which is no bigger than 1.6 (insurance), is nippy and has a good name.

    *toddles off to autotrader*

    What exactly are your requirements?

Would a hatch be ok? Or do you need a huge boot?

:D Hey Onkle, long time no see!

Hatchback, saloon, not too pushed. Just want something with a bit of life in it. As I said the 206 is grand, but a bit dull. My only requirements are something a bit of fun, NCT'd, and less than 2k.

Half thinking of taking my starlet back and getting the OH to buy a new car instead. Meh, I don't know. That might be easiest.

It has been a while helena.. too long :)

Are you sure your insurance will go up much if you stretch to a 1.8 or a 2.0? You're 25, female so you might be surprised.

If you liked your starlet why not stay Jap and go for a Honda Civic or something?

Had a 97 1.6 petrol A4 up to last year and the only bad thing I can say about it is that it rolls on the corners a lot. It's not nippy but it's not slow either. Reliable as they come and never had an issue with bodywork, chassis or engine.

Traded it in for 3 grand last August. It was my second car after a 1.3 '95 307 hatch.

    ....no bigger than 1.6 (insurance)...

Have you put that to the test?

My insurance hasn't changed much since I had 1.9 tdi and would only go up by €100 to insure a 4.4l V8 beemer.

    What about these
