how long waiting after voluntarily leaving job for jobseekers benifit

    how long were people waiting if they voluntarily left work to get the jobseekers benifit . it says on the website that you may be disqualified for getting the jobseekers benifit for up to 9 weeks .

    just wanna try get an idea of how long i might be waiting.

    go in the day after you leave.

    They will decide the period you are disqualified for based on the reasons you left "voluntarily". For example, if you left because of bullying, they may not disqualify you at all.

    If for no other reason, for the period you are disqualified you should sign on for credits, also you can get your claim started since it will take weeks for it to come through anyway and you just won't get as much backdated pay.

    Try and put it to them that you left the job by mutual consent. Thats what happened with me on my construction job. The job was kind of winding down, and I was kind of tired of it anyways.

    I left my job voluntarily in Feb, moved back to Dublin, used my savings as I didn't want to sign on for the sake of it as stupidly thought I'd be able to get a job within a month or so. I didn't sign on until 2 months after I left- got the letter on Friday saying I was getting the full amount backdated to when I left my job so happy days! It's probably different with every case but go and sign on and bring 6 months of bank statements as well as all the other documents you need.
