I need to get my VW Passat serviced. Am going to start making calls tomorrow looking for prices but someone has suggested looking for prices in Northern Ireland as everything else seems to be cheaper there.

Has anyone any experience of this? Is it cheaper?

in general yes, but i suppose it depends on what your getting done and if any of the southern garages will price match.

there was a recent post about somebody being quoted 530e for an inspection 2 on a BMW in a specialist garag (not a main dealer) and then ended up getting it done up north for 330stg iirc

Hi Homer - yeah I sent them an email looking for a quote. In fact I sent emails to every VW garage close to a decent shopping area (Newry, Armagh, Belfast..) looking for a quote and also to garages on this side of the dotted line.

The replies should make interesting reading and I'll let you know the price variances I get.

    The North v. Dublin Prices

Well I got replies to all my emails this morning and got prices. First of all, I must explain, I know how to drive a car but have very little knowledge of the workings of the car.

    Dublin Prices.
A Full Service prices ranged from €325 to €360
A Mini Service ranged from €195 to €240

    Northern Prices
    A Full Service costs £220
    A Mini Service costs £148

You guys will probably know instantly what the difference is between a mini & a full service - I have to draw up a list to see which includes what. So maybe these prices are not comparing like with like - I don't know yet.

I really want to keep money here in the South, but once I do the comparison & if I see the value saved equals the cost of 1 months electricity bill or 20 dinners on the kitchen table, that will help me decide.
