Hi, just wondering and I know I should be worrying about other things,

But well, whats the craic like in Trinity? Also, how is it in comparison to other colleges round the Dublin area?

Im possibly going there next year and was wondering whats it like for a laugh?
I know all about it academically, but well wouldnt be particularly fond of spending four years somewhere where I wont be particularly happy, y'know?

    Many thanks in advance!:D

It all depends on what societies you join, what course are you thinking of doing?

College is what you make of it etc.

As previously posted its what you make of it, join societies that take your interest, probably easier to make friends in the smaller ones tho. Ents were pretty crap this year but hopes are high for Mick next year, live music and electro nights are on the agenda. I'v noticed that people doing more intensive courses, eg science, engineers, medicine, dont seem to party as much as art block folks but with the hours and early rises thats to be expected:(
Oh and nothing compares to a Pav Friday....Or Monday:D

Great thing about Trinity is its central location, which means there are tons of pubs or whatever to go to, and loads of people will stay around college for a while, no getting the bus home straight after college.

Well to compare there's lots of people between the ages of 20-25, a fair few older students too, lots of people from different backgrounds/cultures and lots of societies.....so essentially the same as every other university in the country.

Tbh I think its silly when people ask about differences in social scene or when people get into arguments about it...its all the bloody same (especially TCD V Ucd). Anybody who chooses one over the other based on what they hear about "social scene" need their head examined imo.

I will say though the on big advantage TCD has is the central location. Still a pubs a pub and town is only a bus ride away so I still think it would be silly to base four years of your life on that.

From the bits and pieces I've heard/experienced, Trinity sounds like it's better than the other Dublin colleges in terms of social life (as mentioned above, the central location helps, but I've also heard our societies/clubs are far more active socially), but pales in comparison to any of the country colleges like NUIG.

Trinity is different from UCD in that less emphasis is put on ENTS nights. When I go out with my UCD friends it is almost always to some party/event/theme night organised by their ENTs. Within Trinity yes there are theme/party/events organised by ENTs, but in my experience there is less hype about them, and we (my friends and I) will more likely just go to random club. Not saying UCD nights are better, just that UCD people are more likely to go to and ENTs night than a non ENTs night. I prefer that because your not going out with a load of Trinners, you meet loads of people from other colleges. I can safely say the amount of new friends I've met on nights out is a good mix of Trinity, UCD, DCU, DIT, etc. You'll soon realise there isn't this great segregation between the colleges, though it is easier to meet people from your own college.

But I would definately agree, college is what you make of it. Defo go out and join EVER SOCIETY EVER, find the ones you like, and spend the rest of the year getting annoyed at emails from all the societies you no longer care about. It will be well worth it for the new friends you make. And in the first week/fortnight, talk to everyone on your course. It's these people that you meet then that you will most likely hang with for the year.

And to take social scene into account when picking a college is perfectly acceptable imho, a friend of mine in LIT is transfering to DIT because there is NO social scene, and he isn't enjoying it, or the course sufficiently to stick with it. If your not enjoying life where you are you're hardly likely to hang around.

Rag Week doesn't really work in Trinity for a variety of reasons. Freshers' week is where the madness really is.

Ents is the office of the Entertainments Officer - he is one of the Students' Union officers and Ents is part of the SU, connected financially, etc. As has been said the atmosphere is best at the very start and the very end of the year, when major social events are on, and there isn't as much of a focus on a Rag Week, principally because we have much more student society activity than other colleges lasting continuously through the year. That is why joining societies and clubs is the best way to enjoy the College social scene - don't just wait for it to come to you, get involved in making it yourself.
