Older toyota servicing / dashboard warning lights

    Hi,

I've a 1996 Toyota Celica (jap import), with an airbag warning light and the NCT is just over 3 weeks away.

I've rung around a couple of Toyota dealers so far, but none has the old style Toyota on-board diagnostics tool to diagnose/reset this.

Any other owners of older toyotas who found a garage/toyota dealer able to handle these typical on-board computer issues ?
The 96 Celica pre-dates the introduction of standard OBD (on-board diagnostics) ports, so standard OBD computers won't connect. I assume it has to be a proprietary old toyota diagnostics tool.

    Worse case scenario, there's
    a) a Celica forum which talks about putting a paper clip across certain terminals to reset the on-board computer

    b) pull the fuse of the airbag system ( I don't imagine the NCT guys check for that ? )

any recommendations for garages in Dublin will be greatly appreciated.

    cheers,
    CD

I had similar probs with a 94 Honda H22a. Mine dropped the faults if the battery was disconnected for more than 10 minutes. I'm not sure if an ecu fault is a failure on the NCT test schedule... You could give them a shout and check with them.

The airbag light being on will not cause the car to fail its NCT. Airbag lights are not part of the test

    Hi Beam99,

    it's a ST202.
I done a bit of googling last night and found a procedure to clear the code with a paper clip across the diagnostic port jumpers, will give that a try first over the weekend before inconveniencing anyone.

Link to airbag light reset procedure : reset airbag light

Cheers for the generous offer, will see how I get on with that first.

thanks to all for the replies.

    regards,
    CD
