    http://www.golfdigest.com/rankings/courses/greatest/2009/05/100_greatestgolfcourses

Golf Digest have just released their latest rankings of American Courses, as is the custom every two years, and for the first time ever Augusta National is at number 1. The usual number 1, Pine Valley in New Jersey has been knocked from top spot.
Cant say im suprised as the course i see year after year during the masters looks almost too good to be true which leads me to ask - how good must Pine Valley, Cypress Point and Shinnecock Hills etc. be to be consistently ranked level/ahead of Augusta?
Its a pity Pine Valley doesnt host any events because it would be great to get a look at it on TV.

i always thought that Augusta didn't offer enough of a challenge of the tee to be considered the greatest. It's more difficult than it used to be, but still nothing compared to other courses. But from fairway to green it is some challenge. it's also a very beautiful course and has some of the great holes in golf. it's difficult cos i've played none of these, but from TV there are courses i'd prefer. Pinehurst being one. Pebble Beach another.

ya i find both rather easy off the back sticks, but augusta has a much tastier hang sandwich my no.1 on that count;)

sorry just think its a bit of a waste of time discussing the finer points of someone else's veiws unless you've played them both
