    hey everyone,

im recently back playin after a decade or so away from the game, and thus fell a fair bit behind in keepy uppies with golf ball development.. So ive been testin a few recently, and buying a few more on ebay, mostly Grade A second hand, or good bargains on new balls..

at the moment, im happiest with Pinnicle, but i wana see how i fare with Srixons, as frankly Titleist are too expensive, despite that they are the makers of Pinnacle..

so, ive been making a list, Id be happy to see what input anyone here can give,
theres a lot of balls i havent played with, and a lot that i havent got to test enough of yet..
I made a post on another forum, mostly with people new to the game, but i havent nailed down these balls yet.. so any ammendments / additions are welcome :D

Titleist.. they have some nice balls, but are overpriced ofcourse..

Titleist Pro V1 works out in excess of 33€ per 12pack, great ball, lots of spin and allows a lot of shot making...
but the problem with high spin balls is if you dont hit a straight shot, the spin will over pronounce the flaws in your ball flight... so a slice (ball spinning right) will become a worse slice and spin a lot further right etc etc..

Titleist PTS Carry i liked this ball, i can stop it, it feels nice and has plenty of carry. its a ball i would play with a lot, certainly a good ball for the weather conditions in Ireland at this time of year (rain, wind, sun, rain, rain).

Titleist NXT Tour I've heard this is a nice ball, although i haven't yet played with it.. its said to give "soft feel, high performance control, and long distance".. and an alternative to Pro V1's for players that dont intend to shape shots.. another ball i would like to play. .

Srixon Ive just purchased some Pearl grade AD333's to see how i fare with them, a lot cheaper than Titleist, and made by a company that is #2 on the tour for golfballs used.. especially on the USPGA..

Pinnacle made by Titleist, and no longer a HARD HEAVY ball.. :D

    Pinnacle Gold FX Soft
very nice feel to this ball, i was playing on the slieve russell golf course a few days ago with it and was hitting long in wet conditions and stopping the ball dead on the greens.. defo a nice ball to play for a good price too. played again with these yesterday in Citywest Lakes course in very difficult wind conditions, the greens were relatively fast and narrow to hit to, mostly raised, i found it difficult to stop the ball dead unless hitting directly into the wind.. but this is reasonable enough for a long/soft ball, but it was easier when playing the Pro V1.

"Designed for distance biased players, the new Pinnacle Gold FX Soft features a new, softer cover and a soft compression, resilient core, to provide value conscious recreational golfers with a soft yet cut-proof guaranteed golf ball at a superior value. "

    Pinnacle Platinum Distance
Balls just purchased a pack, will let you know in a week or 2 :D

Pinnacle Platinum Feel Balls bought a pack of these too, they are closely linked to the Pro V1, a Titleist made golf ball at about a 1/3 of the price you would pay for the pro v1's

I'll be trying some Maxfli powermax fx soft soon hopefully, so will fill you on in them too.

Bridgestone B330 Rx ball. I've heard these have a nice feel, On this forum I've read they are comparable to a Pro V1 but for swings slower than 100mph. I used to love Bridgestone and Precept back in the day as a teenager, I dont see any good Precepts now, but this Bridgestone is might be worth a try..

what golf balls have you been trying,
    what are they like?
    good value for money?
and what do you think are worth a try? :D

    :pac:

Im a big fan of the gutta percha balls myself. They hold up lovely into the wind:D

Ah no, in all seriousness im a big fan of the harder shell balls. Not overerly fussed on the Pro V1's are they are very soft and cut up quite easily. The balls ive been playing lately and am very happy with are the Callaway HX Hot Bite and the Titleist NXT Tour.

The Pinnacle FX Gold Long is a damn fine ball aswell.

I prefer the straighter flight off the driver that I get with distance balls.
I don't need the spin around the green, at this time of the year the greens are fairly soft anyway.

I mostly buy lake balls and most of these would be older models from a year or two ago.
I'm using the Bridgestone e5 and e6 at the moment.
I also like the Pinnacle Exception, Precept Laddie, Precept XP3.
Out of the ones above the Pinnacle Exception is probably my favourite, they don't make them any more so I'll have to try some of their newer offerings, the Platinum Feel and Gold FX Soft are next on my list to try.

i thought the platinum feel was the upgraded exception?

i have a dozen ordered online, arriving in a day or 2 i imagine
