anyone have this problem, my imac seems to pick up condinsation and ends up with a foggy screen, I've called tech suport on it and they say it's a common problem, just leave it on fr 24hrs and it'll fix itself...which it does..

my warranty is out in a month, just wondering what to do...should I send it back....never had a computer monitor fog up on me beofore

    it's an imac 24'

I had this problem with condensation in the lower corners. I would expect it to lift after the imac warms up. It has something to do with the glass being fixed on with magnets. I don't know what Apple's policy on it is.

I was reading about this issue a while ago. It can leave a yellow stain in some cases, probably a result of smoking in the same room. And it might even cause damage to the LCD.

There are guides online that suggest removing the glass and cleaning it (I wouldn't fancy this). Also some have had success downloading Fan Control and temporarily setting the fans to 3000rpm until the condensation clears. I'm not sure if either of these solutions prevent the problem from recurring.

Apple are blaming it on the environment the Mac is in which sounds like bulls**t. But then again I've read reports from people who have gone through several replacement models with the same issue so there might be something to it.

I would definitely recommend that you log the problem with Apple ASAP and consider your options before the warranty runs out.

Had this problem with my 24 inch iMac.
Condensation appeared a few times on the bottom right of the screen about 2 weeks after I bought it.
Done a bit of research and found that the best way to clear it was to leave the machine on for a few hours.
Done that and it has never reappeared(that was approx a year ago).

I guess if it was down to the conditions that the Mac was operating in then I'd imagine that it would have happened again, but it hasn't.

Nearly freaked when I saw it first though.

Magnets and condensation? No link there whatsoever there at all.

Hi OP, you can pick up a hygrometer pretty cheap in a good DIY store. it could just be that there's a lot of humidity in your place. in that case the problem might return after leaving the machine on for a while.

removing the screen and cleaning it is very easy. with the right solution and cloths it's actually quite easy.

I think the issue is that because the glass is attached to the LCD with magnets - and isn't sealed - there is a gap which allows moisture to get trapped.

    Hi again

I did not mean to imply that the magnets cause the condensation and would concur with Sad Professor on the gap being the problem.

thanks for the clarification! there's a foam seal under the pane of glass which provides a good dust seal but I doubt it does anything for moisture. its not a completely sealed system so moisture can get in through one of the vents i'm sure. i'd wager the environment is too humid.

Tip: For anyone wondering, the glass screen is easy to get off - use a windscreen sucker from a sat-nav cradle in one corner. As soon as you free that corner from the magnets, pop the others out with your fingers, as there are locator posts on the rear edge of the glass, which means that you need to remove the sheet of glass straight towards you, rather than tilting it away like a door opening.

is the environment you have it places close to moisture sources: bathroom / clothes racks, tumble dryer, ironing? any chance of relocating it?

had the same trouble with an 20" iMac (2006 flat/white)... it left some markings on the screen... managed to get it repaired under warranty with Galmac

I don't think I have a choice but to relocate it, never had any problem with any laptop or pc in that room..

they only thing i'm worried about is that the moisture has got into the imac through the screen and may eventually lead to a problem...kinda like a mobile with moisture damage, if you get me?
