3 transporters of 07 fiat puntos

I saw 3 transporters full of Fiat Puntos on the Quays (Dublin) traveling towards the port yesterday evening, they were mostly 07s with a few 08s. Just wondering who would be moving so many second hand cars and why?

My first thought was a rental company but direction threw me a bit.

I know they could have been going to the port tunnel and not the port. But then where...

Just wonder if anyone would know who/why etc??

    Cheers.

Ex rentals is the first thing I would think of too. Maybe a dealer went bang? Are Fiat doing some kind of trade-in/scrappage deal maybe?

    +1

Alot of dealers havent put out 3 and 6 month hire drives this year because they dont want them coming back in September / October . Most dealers have enough cars that they cant sell at the moment so instead of putting out new cars on hire they are putting out some stock they cant shift , ironically some of them woud be un-sold hire cars from last year. Thoses puntos are probably a collection of cars from various Fiat dealers going back out on hire for the summer.

Yeah the Airport seems like a likely destination,

Is there not an overflow car park full of Puntos at CityWest?

    Overflow for who? Rental companies?

Overflow for Fiat Auto Ireland; I've got some pics of it here... not sure if its still there.

It appears that Fiat Auto Ireland were buying 07/08 tradeins back off dealers to keep cashflow running or something along those lines - either way they ended up with huge amounts of 06/07/08 Puntos and some other models; and eventually they were trying to sell them themselves out of City West. Search on here for "fiat eco upgrade" and you'll find some stuff about it.

They are being sent to end the "war on terror " under the guise of a "donation" for the Taliban
The Taliban will abandon their reliable but slightly uncomfortable Hiluxs and camels when they receive the "donation" of fuel efficient Fiats.

Within a few months the gearbox immobilisation system will deploy fleet-wide
    paralysing their forces.

That sounds really interesting, thanks for that!

Do you know if they're still selling them, or how exactly would one go about getting in touch with the crowd selling them?

    Thanks!

My local dealer has signs outside for the 'eco upgrade' still (Airton Fiat) but its off Fiat.ie - I'd suggest giving any of the dealers a call...

Unless the Puntos originated in the city centre (which is unlikely) they would not be permitted to use the quays to access the port tunnel. 5+ axle vehicles are banned from the city centre.

Normally, to get to Dublin Port, they would be required to use the M50/M1/DPT but if they were triple deckers, it's possible that they were over 4.65m and therefore too high to use the DPT.

It's highly unlikely that they were going to the airport.

How would you go about picking one of these up cheaply? Should I just approach a dealer or go to Fiat Ireland?

Prolly bringing them to the O2 for the Britney concert. Fiats love Britney...

Rathdown Motors sells them on behalf of their sister co Argos - but tbh, why would you want one?
The life will be gone out of one,it'll be loose as hell and may have had bodywork too.
You'll get a car with a better history privately for just as good a value if you shop round.

Ok, in a weird way I like the look of some of them. So many people have told me things like this though I will have to rule with my head and not my heart!

Possibly being sent off to get torched somewhere, seems like the only way dealers can get rid of cars off their lots these days.
