    ha!

I wouldn't ... but I over-think everything, and look for the worst possible case scenario all the time.

Why wouldn't it be safe? I presume your talking about the current bout of paranoia doing the rounds regarding pigs. It won't make any difference where in the world you are if things go really bad, so why not head somewhere with better weather than here?

    Is it super cheap?!

If you go, make sure to get out of Cancun sharpish. Unless the All-American, everything included, 'The Hills' in Mexico, type holiday is your thing.

Look up the Senor Frogs website, this is the general theme of Cancun!

im supposed to be going at the start of july then flying out of belize a few weeks later. At the moment the government warns against all non essential travel to mexico which means any health insurance is voided while there. Well my vhi multitrip would be anyhow. Im flying with continental who for those due to arrive this month will allow you to change flights without any fee.

good enough site for info. Im just going to wait and see what happens and make a decision a week or two before hand.
Have you bought flights etc already?

I'd also recommend heading an extra 45 minute drive down south of Cancun and to look at Playa del Carmen instead.

Isla Mujeres, a 40 minute ferry trip from Cancun is a world apart from the city. It's still not what you'd call an unspoilt Caribbean island, but it's much prettier and way more relaxing. There's a good hostel there too. My 'go to a happy place' is here, sitting on a sun lounger with the waves lapping at my feet and a frozen mojito in my hand. Mmm.

Playa del Carmen is much nicer than Cancun too, but it still has a Senor Frogs!

Tulum, about 2 hours south of Cancun has one of the nicest beaches (in my opinion) in the whole area. You can rent a hut out on the beach (about a 10 minute taxi ride from the town) for peanuts and there are some great parties there in the evening.

It's easy to get there and get around. I was there for 3 weeks in Feb / Mar. Flew into Mexico city for 2 nights, then got an internal flight down to Peurto Escondido, well worth checking out. After that it was overnight buses to San Cristobal, then on to Play del Carmen (Cancun mini-me). Stayed there for 3 nights, then got 2 hour minibus to Cancun followed by a taxi to the harbour and ferry straight to Isle Mujeres...bypassed Cancun completely. Would go back tomorrow.

When I went I spent a few weeks in the States and then flew from Miami to Cancun (and then hightailed it out of there!). It would depend on what your timescale is like really, and how many places you wanted to get to as to whether you'd need more internal flights. Mexico is a big place and incredibly diverse. I've only been to the Yucatan peninsula so can't speak for the rest of the country but the Pacific coast and the places around Puerto Escondido sound absolutely amazing. When I go back I'll be heading west :)

If you're staying in the area around Cancun (places that I mentioned like Tulum and Isla Mujeres) then there's absolutely no need to book anything apart from your flight. The bus service in Mexico is good and fairly fast and frequent. There are also loads of mini vans that cost the same as buses and just shuttle between the towns. I found Mexico very easy to get around.

If you want any more info feel free to PM me.
