    Hi

    Hoping someone can advise

    Has anyone been at all.

What would be the best way to get there.

I think it's only Aer Lingus who fly direct..

    Any cheaper alternatives.

Also where is the best place to stay - hoping to go for up to 2 weeks.

Would it be handier staying in an apartment or a hotel.

    Thanks

Yep, Aer Lingus is the only one that flies direct and only from May to October I believe. I've gotten cheap flights with Alitalia and Air France before, though in both cases, you'll have one stop-over each way, either in one of the small Rome airports or in the main Paris one. There are probably a lot of other options too, but the earlier you book, the better - in any case, everyone except Aer Lingus will have an intermediate stop somewhere...

As to where to stay, it kind of depends - are you going to stay in Athens the whole time? I'd stay away from Omonia square TBH, there are plenty of cheaper hotels there but the area is really not safe at night, so it's best avoided... Apartments for short stays are not that common in Athens, so I don't think you'll have many options there. As long as you stay somewhere near any subway (metro) stations, it doesn't matter if you are a huge distance from the city center, as you can still get there very fast - public transportation is in fact very good in most places...

two weeks seems like a very long time to me. if you go during the summer, the heat is stifling. after 3 days i couldn't wait to get out of that place

ye I would agree think its too long to be there was there for 4days last summer and it was too hot but stayed in Glyfada which was 20mins outside the city right beside the beach. you mite want to try there if that is what your looking for.

Also head down to Piraeus and take some of the boat trips to the islands. The boats are public transport and you can do single days. There are about 3 islands within 2-4 hours from Piraeus.

2 weeks is a bit long also.
