I have a network set up and a workgroup (MSHOME) so I can share files between my PC and my Laptop - both XP - works fine.

I'm trying to add another laptop to the workgroup to share files - it's on vista. I change the Workgroup to MSHOME but no sign of it on the network - and I cannot see the other compters/files from the Vista system

    Help! Any ideas?

Maybe You should try just with "Workgroup" instead of "Mshome". Microsoft fcuked around with these setting on Vista, make sure You've got network discovery turned on in Network and Sharing Centre. Try ping the other pc's from command prompt, might be a good idea to give each pc a static ip.

is it vista home premium by any chance?
I don't think you can network Vista Home Premium systems properly.

    Try install an XP update:

On the vista machine go to Start-Network-Network and Sharing Ceter.
Make sure Network discovery and File Sharing are set to on.
Try turning off the vista firewall.

Then try access the vista machine from one of the xp machines by going start run and typing the ip address of the vista machine like \\ipaddress

Get the ip address on the vista machine by running ipconfig in cmd
