    Hi all,
I am in the market for a year 2000 onwards Passat - under €4000 - Im wondering which one I should go for? 100 bhp? 130bhp? comfortline? base? Red D? RED I?

I want a TDI Diesel so its goena be a 1.9. I want a front arm rest and possibly cruise control. anything else is a bonus in the car.

Whichever one I get im going to get it re-mapped to increase the power so i was thinking on getting a 2002, 6 speed with 130 bhp already in it.

What are your thoughts on these cars????

    Cheers

The father had a 1.6 100bhp passat and always found it to be underpowered, and poor on overtaking etc. He drives a 130 bhp 1.9tdi a4 now and finds it much much better. Plenty of poke in it

I'd go with the 130 and get it remapped.

EDIT: Baseline has front electric windows and mirrors, climate control, cd player, traction control and central locking.

Comfortline has exterior chrome trim, rear electric windows, trip computer. Front and rear centre arm rest. Upgraded seat trip and wood inserts on the dashboard

Whatever you do decide to go for pay no attention to the colour of the TDI letters the are meaningless, for the true BHP output look at the data sticker in the log book or the data sticker under the boot mat.130bhp should be 96kw on the data sticker.

I had a B5.5 PD130 Sport passat a few years ago with the same spec as Frank above. It was a fine car, I had mine remapped and the difference was amazing. It wasnt quite as economical afterwards though. In almost a year and around 25,000 miles all I had to replace was the drivers door window regulator and the maf (only 80 yoyo part exchange).

Don't get the 90BHP engine. Jesus they were some load of dirt.

100BHP 04 I had was grand, plenty of poke due to the turbo. 140BHP 2.0 ltr sport I have now is savage :D

But the 90bhp is essentially the same lump as the 105bhp. The only difference is that the 105bhp uses the Pump Duse injector system.

I had a 02 130 BHP Comfortline that had the trip computer, arm rest, climate control etc, electric everything and plenty of power when you needed it.

But it's a lightweight compared to the 06 140BHP DSG Comfortline Passat I have now... that 0.1L makes a BIG difference :D and it has the same toys as the last one plus cruise control - but disappointingly not the full computer which would be handy if I ever wanted to retrofit a steering wheel with all the controls.

Wouldn't mind front fogs either but I'm told it'd cost too much to do. Thinking about remapping it at some point (as the warranty is now expired) but dunno if it'd be worth the effort as I'm happy with her as is.

roskey i m in same boat my budget is 5500 (+500but i m trying not to spend it) dont really know what to look for, i m also going for diesel coz i do 500miles/week.
things like Cruise Control, Climate Control, Immobilisers, Traction Control are almost in every car on i see on web but how i can confirm it? only thing some one told me for diesel car must ask for server history.
on side note my personal choice would be Audi. but again i m just looking around but can not fined something decent.
