How can I replace a broken Ctrl key on Apple MacBook Pro?

    Hi there

this is actually an old problem. The Ctrl key is broken on my MacBook Pro and the glue which held it on previously has come away. I was wondering, before we get the glue out again, is there a place to get single keyboard keys like this? Or would I have to replace the whole keyboard?

Or if anyone has a spare Ctrl key lying around... ;)

    thanks

    mica

It's usually a case of replacing the whole keyboard.

    have a look on ebay

Yikes. I was hoping that wouldn't be the case but I suppose it makes sense. At that rate, I reckon the glue will be coming back out. But I will have a look at ebay first. Cheers for that.

Well, that's not too expensive for a new keyboard...but it's only one key that is broken, so over 40 euros does seem a lot then. But if we break anymore, I know where to go...so thank you.

Yeah, Mac keyboards are not as easy to take apart. My husband took mine apart to fix something and thought it would be like putting his dell back together...hence the broken Ctrl key! There's a knack to Mac ;)

but I do love my mac.

You're welcome. I'm sure there's a good picture guide on the net, so be sure to do a good goole search before ye carry out any more work. Will make it an awful lot easier!

In windows and linux you can remap keys usually caps lock <--> control

    that could be another solution
or buy an external keyboard till you get it sorted

    Hi there,

I think I can remap keys on Mac too. Thing is, I wasn't even using Ctrl all that much on mac as our Apple key works like the Windows Ctrl key. But I also have Windows parallels on my mac as I had to do an Access assignment for college. Then I started using CTRL and then it broke again. It lasted a year with just glue as I wasn't using it at all.

Ah, I think I will just glue it again as I'm finished with Access and can't see me going near that application ever again :)

If I could have got an unbroken CTRL key, I would have been sorted. But sure you never know till you ask. Cheers anyhow, m
