    Hi,

I have a skyline at the moment, hopefullly i am going to have it sold pretty soon, im unemployed so its not the best car to be running.. Anyway i should have about 4 grand to buy a car with, im thinking id like to get a diesel saloon, id like something that is a good drivers car, cheap to run, powerful ish would be nice, not expecting anything super fast but something with some power would be good, id kind of prefer rwd or 4wd to fwd but id be open to anything.. The other thing is comfort, i would like something with really nice seats, id say that and being very reliable would be on top.

Im going to test drive a 5 series bmw and an audi a6 both 2.5L

Not too sure about other things, maybe a merc of somes sort, i dont know much about them and there doesnt seem to many nice manual diesels about for 4k..

Id be very open to suggestions, i think this might be a place where people would be into this kind of car?? I saw somewhere online someone saying that alfa romeo make a good 2.4L diesel engine, anyone know if this is the case, they are a car manufacturer i would have avoided completely..

    Thanks for any advice..

i dunno what you think of them but you should get a decent tdi passat up to 2006 for that kinda money

for some reason the hole has fallen out of the passats value in the last few months, 2008 passats are maken 7-9k if your lucky

i bought one recently for €7700 2008 comfortline tdi,

its comfortable ,nippy, safe, and easy enough on juice compared to what you have

A passat is something i have looked at a bit, that seems cheaper than what i have seen online, good work.. Ill have another look about, any idea how they compare to audi and what would be better in an audi, am i right in thinking it literally is the exact same engine in an a4, a6 and passat? Also can you get a 2.5 tdi passat? I dont think i saw any..

The same engine is used accross the range. A4 / Passat / A6 / octy / Superb.

There is a 2.5 tdi passat, a rare sight in these parts. Good few in the uk http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/ni/cars_search.jsp?searchform=&modelexact=1&lid=search_used_cars_full&photo=1&state=block&sort=3&hassearched=Y&make=VOLKSWAGEN&min_pr=75&source=0&model=PASSAT&max_pr=&miles=40&agerange=&mileage=&postcode=sw19+3rq&variant=2.5&bodyid=0&trim=&fuelid=2&colour=&transmissionid=0&keywords=&ukcarsearch_full.x=0&ukcarsearch_full.y=0

On the OP's budget of €4k?

OP have a look at the 2.0 130bhp TDCi Mondeo, should be able to pick on up in the UK on your budget.

Other choice would be a Skoda Superb, uses the old A6 chassis and VAG 1.9 TDi.

I know of a fella that could get 06 2.0 TDI Comforts in from the UK for around 8.7k, and that's cheap. Your dreaming if you got a 08 diesel imported and VRT'd for 7.7k.

i got my passat remapped recently. It gives great poke now at 170BHP.
Where did you get a 2008 comfortline for 7.7k???

2008 Passat TDi for that price ? I'll take 10 of them please.

OP, there is no way you will get a 08 Passat for anything like this price. 06 ones are making more than that ... a 06 at auction here or imported from UK is costing about 8.5k depending on spec or miles. In terms of your 4k budget, well a 02 one made 2800 plus fees in Merlin a few weeks ago.

If I could get 08's for 7.7k euro I could export them to the UK and make profit.

If you are talking about the Audi 2.5TDI V6, yeah its a V6, but its fairly underpowered and unrefined compared to the newer 2.0TDIs, even the 1.9TDI is meant to give it a run for its money.
There were also several versions of the 2.5TDI block, with different BHPs.

If you are coming from a Skyline, then maybe a BMW 2.5 or 3.0TD would be more your thing.

I didnt know there was a NI autotrader site, that is handy thanks spartacus93.

Saw on it some audi a6 2.5 quattros with 180 bhp, im thinking id like one of those, though i then saw they weight 2100 kgs which seems like an insane amount.. I really like the look of the seats in them, probably not what should be on the top of the list but its something id always look for.

I want to drive an a6 though i dont think ill find one of them about dublin maybe id get an idea for a regular a6, i think the only 530d i could get would have well over 150k miles on it which would put me off it a bit, maybe a 525tds though, there are some around with under 100k miles for around 4k.
