I have a few films recorded for the kids and I was able to protect 3 of them so the kids hopefully couldnt delete them by mistake. The problem is it will only let me protect some recordings and not others does any one have any idea why this might be????

    Thanks a mill

AFAIK it doesn't stop people from deleting the recording, all it does is stop the DVR from recording over it if the HDD is full.

ok thought it might mean you had to press delete twice to get rid that would of made it harder for the kids to do it by mistake not that it matters it wouldnt let me protect them anyway lol

well I have the box full all the time and it's never recorded over anything.
it just stops and says its full. do you mean if automatic disk management is on?

protect recording doesn't work. I've still been able to delete stuff.

checked with my mate in UPC and the way it works is as follows:
    (a) Choose the recordings you want to protect, and then protect it.
    (b) Go to the DVR Settings menu, and set Auto Disk Space Mangt. to On.

What will now happen is that anytime you are recording and have less than 1 hour of recorded space available, it will scan your disk for any unprotected programmes and delete them in order to free up 3 hours worth of recording space. It will begin by deleting the oldest items first.
