What engine you interested in? Nice cars, but nothing that a decent Golf or Leon wont do cheaper and you'd probably get a newer one for similar money. How much do you have to spend?

You could have one like this home and registered well within your budget.

For a little bit more you could have this.

I dont find this particular generation a3 attractive. You would get a cracking golf for that money...Better looking and same build, technically the same car.

Get sterling cash, fly to UK, inspect car, pay for it in cash, take full v5 less the part for export, ferry home, go to vrt office and pay vrt, buy new plates, then tax the car.

There is a big sticky on the top of the motors page about importing a car. You will have a much better selection of cars from the UK.

What do you mean by "sport"? Are you going for an S3 or the likes?

    hey,
did you end up getting that A3 from the uk?

I was looking at getting an S3 from the uk, year 00 or 01 but it was too much for my budget so now im looking at bringing a a3 tdi 130bhp 2003 model over from the uk.

have you driven this car, if so id love to know what ye think and is there any issues to look out for?#

    cheers

    Hey OP,

Great choice of car, have one of these myself (obviously biased) but really like it. Drives great and plenty of poke. Perfect for me as I don't have kids so don't need anything physically bigger.

Hope you find a good straight one they'll drive forever.

    hey buddy12

what model and year do u have?

Ive read the 2002 model a3 tdi 130bhp has loads of torque available at low revs. Is this torque available up thru the higher gears?

rui7, the one I have is a 00 1.8 Turbo, it has 150 BHP and plenty of poke. Its a little slow through the first 2000 revs but once the turbo kicks in its as quick as anyone really needs to be honest.

    hey buddy12,

so you have the petrol version. 1.8T.

I've my eye on the a3 1.9 tdi diesel. Ive read it has good power and very economical.
