well for HL maths, in theory, you can leave out whatever you want. Like, there's eight questions, do six, so you could just study the six questions and commit to doing them. It's definitely safer to leave yourself options tho, esp in maths.

For English, I think I'm gonna go with Longley as my no. 1 choice, and then Bishop and Rich as back ups. Longley is likely to come up, and there's almost always a female poet, so I should be safe enough with those three.

Physics, you're not really supposed to leave anything out. There is no definite method to questions being asked (ie they could ask 4 electricity Qs one year, and only 2 Qs the next). Physics is def my weakest subject, but I still suppose I'll try to be prepared on the whole course. Will prob do the min on electricity tho!

Don't know about the rest of your subjects

    i concur

Bishop is highly likely, but it's also possible Keats will be on the paper aswell.

Anyone got any predictions of what proofs are going to come up in maths?

Yeah for maths I'm only studying the six questions on each paper than I'm goin to do, It takes me so long to comprehensively study for a topic that it would be a waste of time to study for all questions. I don't plan on using maths for points anyway (if I do end up using it for the points it'll mean something went badly wrong in another exam) so I think that should be alright. It was my strategy for the mok and I did OK in that.

For biology I'm not so much leaving stuff out as trying to know section 1 & 2 in loads of detail and not do as much on section 3 which is only really a small part of the paper.

For English I'm not even going to bother rereading larkin's poetry as he just does my head in and I couldn't stand to write about him.

business , you could leave out the last 2 units...prodving you know the 1st few units really well...anyway, in section 1) Q2 and Q3 there are some part that usually are tricky enough, half of the time you don't really know what they are asking for....:rolleyes:

but they could still come up as short Qs...

Home ec...eh i don't know .looks like that HACCP and fruit and veg wouldn't come up

In English, study Bishop and Rich. Montague and Longley are also likely.

Just have a look at the exam papers to try and get an idea of what to study. Certain Q's in Biology and Business have come up every year so it's likely they'll come up again. Genetics, Sexual reproduction etc.
Biology gives a lot of choice anyway, so don't worry about not covering it all.

what are people doing for economics? I think I'm going to do mostly micro cos that's what our teacher is revising with us now. what market structure is due. are we talking oligopoly, imperfect competition?

Anyone here in the Institute? THeir teachers predictions are always good.
(To all you people who hate the IOE and people in it please dont change the topic)

I am, for bio, we just got told that is possible to leave out a topic e.g genetics, if you dont like it, but one wasn't suggested to us like.

English, we're doing Bishop, Longley, Montague, and Rich

Yeah, oligopoly or imperfect competition is due for economics. I think either is as likely as the other.

Not sure what other parts I'll be focusing on. Probably a good bit on fiscal policy of Govnt and National Income etc.

I guess ye studied more than 4 but are doing them 4 poets in detail?

For biology last year i left out ALL of the plant section!!!not ONE question came up on plants!! delighted!!! the course is so broad u can always leave out something you dont like!
home ec.....last year was the first year lipids came up...they may well come up again!!

for maths I think the factor theorem proof is going to come up : )

Yeah we also did Walcott and Keats

Id love to be in the IOE

For english every teacher in my school as well as friend's grinds teachers are all saying you can pretty much bank on seeing Keats.
I hate the guy personally so even so I'm not doing him - Longley, Bishop and Rich and I think I'll be fine.

    Walcott seems likely too.

Keats, Longley and Bishop are the only three I'm learning, and there's a pretty good chance Keats and Bishop will come up, but hoping for Longley.:)

If Bishop comes up, I'll jizz all over my exam :D I'm doing Keats, Larkin, Longley and Montague as well. But I don't like Montague so much.

For Biology, you get a Genetics question and an Ecology question every single year, you'd be mad to leave them out!

Yeah, my teachers are saying the factor theorem proof will be on, easy!

I'm gonna leave out everything to do with electrons/radioactivity/atoms in Physics (I'm doing the Applied Electricity option), and I know Electricity backwards and I'm almost pretty solid on Magnetism. You tend to get Electricity coming up in two questions (its own Q and part of the here's-four-pick-two Q), and it's not much extra work to do the Applied Electricity option if you like electricity. But Physics is a lot more changeable than other exams.

we didn't even do keats  If walcott doesn't come up I've nothing. only one I know. I vaguely know Longley though

It would be a good idea to learn Bishop and Rich, as one of the two will definitely be there :)

Id like Longley or Mahon to come up as I like their poems the best. I hate Keats and Bishop

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 47 Richyj_0

For English, I'm learning Bishop, Wallcott and Keats even thought we did Montague and Rich as well. They're the ones that are the most likely. I don't know about physics, don't really want to think about that to be honest. Em Irish...who knows really? Fairly unpredictable I'd say. And History is simply vast...

Biology is quite easy to narrow down...

    Genetics
    Ecology
    Respiration/Photosynthesis
    Microbiology
    Systems

They are the main topics that always come up.
