Rural broadband availability

Does anyone have any good personal experience of rural broadband service?
Just read a recent article about Eircom's availability - not good! If you live more than 5km from an exchange, no chance of broadband.
I live in Portugal, but looking into moving back. I run 3 websites and need a decent broadband speed, but would be living probably in the Tipperary sticks.
    Any advice gratefully received, thanks.

Down in Tipp you have a choice of between www.premierbroadband.net or www.wirelessconnect.eu for fixed wireless broadband if Eircom is not an option.

I've just fell off my chair...............can't believe the prices on Premier!
3mb download -€75 per month and €165 installation!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm well out in the sticks here, most definately not in a built up, tourist area. I get 8mb download, and it runs very close to that, unlimited traffic for €20 per month. That's a fixed line, installation cost €25.

Here is a list of exhanges in tipp and whether they have adsl or not

Below that is a crude map of exchanges showing where is supposed to get done by the end of the year in orange and green for done , also look at shinrone and moneygall and even killeigh in offaly below that , the locations on the maps are sloppy , very sloppy . Double check them .

In Ireland you can get c 2mbit down 256k up at c 6km line length if the line is OK after that it would be 1 down 128k up to c 8km and bugger all thereafter. Up to 2mbit upload but only close to adsl 2 exchanges marked 2 on list or shaded orange on maps but not live yet and could be as late as christmas

Roscrea has DSL so you may very well have a good chance of getting it. I dont think there is any fixed wireless providers around Roscrea.

A word of warning, if you use daft.ie to locate a house there is some BLATANT false advertising going on there by Vodafone at present ( see last posts) where they even claim to supply broadband on islands off the coast of Donegal . Be careful .

It's a buyer's(or renter's) market in Ireland at the moment. You should have your pick of any number of suitable houses. There is a huge amount of surplus property on the market. Before you make a decision to buy/rent, insist on actually seeing DSL working at the house. Check the speed for yourself, and make sure you are happy with it. Anyone who is serious about offering a house for sale/rent will make sure to have the Broadband working in advance. As Sponge Bob says - don't trust any advertising material from agents, and don't trust coverage maps.

Just been looking this up and came here via my search haha!! Couple of my friends around Nenagh have got broadband from a crowd called Echo IT. Going getting it myself, the lads are in Templederry and out around Toomevara and it looks a much better job than this bloody dongle yoke I've been using. Anyone else get broadband from them here?
