Advice: No secret weapon for tomorrows Bay Run

    Hi all,

Just looking for some advice. Normally when I do half marathons at about the 12k mark I begin to get the feelings of weakness and low blood sugar so I usually pop a sachet of Lucozade Sport gel down the hatch and that gets me back on track.

Doing the Bay Run tomorrow and I have realised I never packed in any of the sachets  and I have looked around Bantry town but all I could find was the Lucozade Original glucose tablets.

What do other people people take when they feel like that during a long run? It has to be something I can carry in my hand easily enough and that will give me that instant glucose/surcose kick to focus my mind. Are those original tablets the same idea as lucozade sport gels?

I am also mindful of advice people give to novices like me 'dont try anything new on the day of the race'. I always use the gel sachtes and they argee with me so I am afraid using somthing aline will upset my tum!

All advice, potions and concoctions welcome!

PS If anyone is doing the Bay Run 2m and has a spare Lucozade Sport Gel I would be eternally greatful

Those Lucozade sweets aren't too bad - a bit tasteless but they do the trick of getting sugar in as well as anything. I had bought some to bring on my first marathon but forgot to put them in my pocket on the day.

The Lucozade/ Dextrose tabs are pretty much just pure sugar and I've used them myself during runs when I get things wrong. Not as easy to consume whilst running though since I started using the gels instead. Being diabetic myself though I always have some of those tabs in a pocket somewhere for emergencies so can assure you that they do the job of giving you a sugar hit when needed.

I use the sweets myself and find them perfect, the secret is to take them just before a water station so you can get the dry taste out of your mouth. Good luck tomorrow.

Why not try Jelly Babies, Wine Gums or something of that ilk? Normal sweets always work for me...
