A true classic, but could it ever be remade and updated?....or would it turn into a Fifth Element/CGI fest and just be utterly dire?....has anyone come close to putting a new movie together?

or would the story and concepts just not work today?

Have you seen the anime movie of the same name (loosely based on the 1927 movie) that was released in 2001? It's outstanding imo.

The irony being that Potemkin gave us many of our modern tecniques.

From what I heard that wasn't too bad. I still haven't seen it though so disregard this.

AS for Metropolis, could it be remade? Of course it could. Should it be remade though? I see no harm in it, it's not going to effect the original in anyway if someone wants to take a crack at it let them.

Remember being forced to watch this in college years ago.hated it and it bored the ****e outta me.Can see how advanced it was for its time ,but, from around that time I'm more of a Nosfereteau man,so I see no reason why it shouldn't be remade. The story was solid enough and has probably been imitated hundreds of times already and I think there was either a remake a few years back or it was colourised and given a special release.

No i agree, it really was bad....the first 20 mins were good, but it fell flat and they totally borked the story up. Keanu play his usual stiff plank.....even Gort was botched.

    Meh.

    Oh its really really bad.

It also led to October a 2 hour film by Eisenstien (sp?) about the october revolution completely edited as a montage.

    It really didnt work.

In fact it almost turned me into a capatilist pig.

On the notion of metropolis being remade, it should not be a question of can we? It should why should we? I wouldnt oppose a remake if it was genuine attempt at a modern interpetation of future urban civilisation and artificial intelligence in the future from a modern perspective.
