    Hi,

Given Leinster are the "away" team, does anyone know if they will be playing in the home or away strip?

    cheers,

Doesn't matter who's home or away, there is no clash in the jerseys so they both wear their primary kit

In rugby there's no such thing as home and away kits, more first and second.

As far as I know, because rugby's so genteel/up itself (delete as preferred :P) the home team wears it's second kit in the event of the clash. Some kind of old school gentlemanly conduct.

The old, old rule used to be that the older club/school always had the choice of retaining its first choice of colours.

That is marvellously anachronistic isn't it? :pac:

This has to do with the fact that in the event of a clash of strips the home team change as they should have access to their second kits seeing as they are playing in their own grounds where as the away team would have to travel all the way back to their own groungs to get theirs. Simple really.

Doesn't tend to happen at club/provincial level though. The away team changes strip. The home team still wear their second strip at international level though (which is why Ireland only ever wear the white one when playing SA in Dublin).

Did leinster not play in white against Edinburgh last week in the RDS?

the home team generally changes jersey at all levels. its a sign of respect. you have home advantage so you allow them to wear their first strip.

and @ the first post... have you ever watched rugby?!?! noone ever changes unless their is a clash of colours

They wore white against Edinburgh in Edinburgh. They were wearing blue against Glasgow last week.

I haven't seen that happen at club level in a long time (though its not something I pay a lot of attention to). Leinster were wearing their white strip against Edinburgh in the ML and against Quins in the HEC in the last few weeks, both away games.

    bingo.

tho i think professional rugby does do the whole home and away bit now...more jersey sales equals mo money

It has probably changed at professional level seeing as supporters want to wear their team's jersey to matches. If their team was wearing the away strip for home games against some teams, it could be bad for business!

I was always of the understanding that the home team changed cause they would be more likely to have access to an alternative set of jerseys

That Only Happens At Lower Levels Really, Most Lower Level Teams Dont Even Have Away Jerseys(Leinster j1/2) Alot Of Teams Have Jerseys They Can Turn Inside Out

AFAIK the only league that follows a strict home/away jersey policy is the Super 14, the rest only change if theres a jersey clash. There's been some funny moments in this years Super 14 with refs being unable to tell the home teams plain white home strip from the away teams plain white away strip when they're piled up in a ruck.

Aren't people's jobs at stake after that farce?

If they're not then they certainly should be. It was nothing but a shameless attempt to squeeze more money from fans by SANZAR. Needlessly altering the game of rugby for attempt commercial gain, almost a common SH trait at this stage

Kind of made sense though since the home team would have their second kit at their club in the case of a clash where as the travelling team would hardly bring two kits!

Least I think that was the logic behind it, but yes it is the home team that changes kit in the event of a clash to this day so if anyone was changing kit it will be Munster.
