    Hi

Does anyone know of the best (ie. least scary!) way to cycle from drumcondra/dorset street to around the barge pub in dublin 2?
i'm thinking that avoiding d'olier/westmoreland streets is probably a sensible idea until I'm used to cycling in town...?

    Thanks :)

    This way?

The d'Olier St. way isn't so bad, once you don't go in between buses or up the inside of turning vehicles.

+1 Or take a left along Kevin Street, right onto Wexford Street, round by The Odeon and up Charlemont Street.

Dorset St - Lower Dominic St - (Turn Right) Pearse St - (Turn Left) Capel St - Parliament St - (Turn Right) Castle St -(Turn Left) Werburg St - Bride St - Hetsebury St - (Turn Left)Lennox St - (Turn RIght) Upper Camden St - (Turn Left) Canal.

Shorter and more direct than other routes.
Also, very little chance of meeting a bus or heavy traffic. (Apart from Capel St - mostly quiet roads).

I quite like dropping down Gardiner Street, across the river at the IFSC, then up Westland Row, around Merrion Square, over to the Canal and up that way, but I suspect the section coming around the Customs House and over the river is exactly the kind of scary stuff OP is trying to avoid.

D'Olier St is actually fine. The traffic moves so slowly that its quite easy to just sit in the middle of the lane and keep up with the car in front.

The trick is to remain in the middle of the left lane when going around the front of trinity. If you stay to the left, cars will turn left onto you.
