Hi Guys does anyone know of an easy to use handicap system for club clay shooting league(Internal). This is aimed at non clay shooters and frequent clay shooters a like. I looked at the CPSA/ICPSA etc classification system as an option, but was thinking something along a golf type where you can give lads birds or take away.

Open to suggestions and many thanks

your going to start a row in the club in question .

hear in wexford a few years ago the muppets decided to have a A and B class for flappers in the county .

12 of us were put into class A ,

most of the committee ended up in B ,it did noting for the guy starting of as they were shooting against very experienced shots in B .

what it did was give the top B shooters a prize and deluted the prize fund down so it was not worth the top shooters taking part and a few of us stopped shooting for the county .

3 of the best shots in wexford have not shot for the county in years.

a few lads and myself started a league hear in wexford a few years ago where all clubs are welcome all members are welcome to shoot but only the top five scores from each club count ,also there is a high gun of the league the prizes went to the clubs and they were pheasants ,so no one made a bob out of it .
you could only shoot for the club you were insured with "NARGC insurance"
but there is always a few saa holes that are not happy .

I see where your coming from.

I am trying to level the playing field most of the lads would be 55-65/100 but we also have a few guys 80-90/100.

Actually jw, just for the folks who don't shoot clays at all, how do you guys work the prize funds and things?

In the Leinster League they use the following for 50 bird shoots, just double the handicaps for 100 birds.

Handicaps and cut off points are as follows:
AA 41 and above, 0 point handicap
    A 36 and above, 3 point handicap
    B 32 and above, 6 point handicap
    C 27 and above, 10 point handicap
    D below 27, 14 point handicap

It seems to work well but needs monitoring for 'sandbagging'!

Ok let me see if I am reading this right if you are a normally shoot 32-36 your entitled to an extra 6 point/birds???

I am hoping theres no "sandbagging" its only internal to level the playing field at what stage does someones handicap get changed?

    Thanks for the help

That's correct. I t works well enough. When you look at the League results, the average scores in each class are all very close with the handicaps added in.

the nargc insurance is used all clubs have to be members and all shooters have to be insured members of the club they shoot for.

lets say there is 6 clubs in the league all clubs pay 100 euro to shoot in the league thats 600 euros , 600 euros of pheasants are ordered for a date in late summer.

each club will host a 30 bird sporting shoot on a eve during the week ,10 euro to shoot no prizes but the club can run a pool trap if they wish .
by the way the clubs will make 600-800 euros a eve

a club can have as many shooters as they wish but only 5 top scores from each club a eve to count so any one in the club could make the top five .
also the club can run its own over all high gun competition .

a leader board will show the leading clubs ,after shoot 4 all clubs go into a hat one one is drawn to run the prize giving shoot shoot no 7 .

the club running the prize giving shoot gets no pheasants as the will have a better prize in the money from the shoot .

so that leaves 5 clubs to get the pheasants ,they should be divided out fairly evenly .

the prize giving shoot can be any for mat and a BBQ enjoyable also.

all club high guns can be given out and a over all high gun for the best shooter of the league.

its a far more enjoy able league that singles and the hole club will benefit
