Any recommendations for a suitable camera to carry with me when I'm cycling.

I've a small Sony, but I want to be upgrade.

Obviously it needs to be small :) - but I was looking for something waterproof too - any suggestions on what to get and where to get it from?

    Cheers in advance.

Aldi are selling a waterproof camera with their cycling specials as of next Thursday. Have a look at the thread that links to it.

That said, buying a camera from Aldi might be a bit like buying a submarine from Guiney's i.e. it might be really good but, in all likelihood, it probably won't be.

If you already cycle with a phone you might consider upgrading to a top-end 8 megapixel cameraphone rather than carrying two devices.

Compared to a DSLR small cameras are invariably crap anyway.

Not sure about buying a camera from Aldi - although I did just get a wet suit from Lidl!!!

    But it's worth further investigation.

The problem I've found with camera phones and cycling isn't picture quality, but rather the camera is too slow between pressing the button and taking the pic. If you are trying to capture people on the move, it's a disaster.

For what it's worth, I also own a Canon Ixus and it's a great compact camera. It gives you a certain amount of manual control, unlike most compacts, which is great if you have an interest in experimenting.

Good point. The new ones might be better, but I wouldn't commit without trying one out.

    Review: Motorola ZINE ZN5

"The ZN5 is, without a doubt, the fastest cameraphone we've ever used. It saves pictures and re-sets the camera for the next picture quickly. In some tests, we were able to take as many as ten shots in 4 seconds."

Scott, you might be able to answer this: is there such a thing as a time-lapse stills camera that could be mounted on handlebars or even a helmet?

I've been looking up helmet cams lately. The Go Pro Wide has the following modes
Modes: video, standard photo, photo every 2 or 5 secs, 3x photo burst sequence, self timer, upside down photo/video flip
The video linked in this post is done with it.

It's only 5 Megapixel though for photos, if that bothers you.

Most Helmet cams have this function but I havent seen any digital cameras that do that -- although some probably do -- I've also been looking at helmet cams Id like to record some fast descents or get some cool vids of the boards spins.

+1 on the Canon Ixus range aswell, really small and lightweight and also records video which is another plus

Me too, its down to either the Vholdr or the Go Pro Wide. The Vholdr seems to have better specs, but the videos done with the Go Pro Wide just seem better.

Thanks to all for the advice - it looks like it's down to the W60 or the Ixus.

I'm not sure the phone would be waterproof, and I need it to be as I'd like to take it kayaking.
