You see this kind of "maths" in lots of shops, where for example 2x100g coffee jars cost less than a 200g one. Daft.

Far from daft, many people assume the larger is cheaper as it costs less to produce, thats where they sting you.

As in "daft" to fall for it.

    no nothing dodgy about it.

with competition between shops especially multiples they pick on everyday items.

Barrys tea 80s, Batchelors beans 225g,kit kat 9 pk etc there are about 50 that are the most purchased products in shop in general so the companies produce more of these than any other.

the more they make the cheaper per unit the item becomes and the multiples have forced the companies to pass on this production saving and pass it off as their own price reductions. They will only flag these reductions when it suits them.

This is only true if you are talking about a product that is produced differently. The KitKats in this are simply wrapped differently so the economies of scale are the same for both pack sizes.

Or where idiots sting themselves. There are loads of phoney bargains about. And the price per kilo is often wrong on items too.

 the wrapping IS part of production, just like the beans in bigger tins are often more expensive, as are many larger sized jars of sauces, like pasta, curry sauces. I saw in musgraves once the big catering bags of sugar cost more than loads of 1kg ones.
