Hey guys im just wondering what your opinion is on fat burners? I am thinking of eaither getting Lipo6 fatburner of BSN cheaters relief. Do these actually work cos i have heard conflicting reports. Im doing 5 45 minute sessions of cardio a week and i have been doing this for 9 weeks. My bodyfat is at 12% but i want to get it down to single figures cos you still can't really see my abs yet. Any advice for any other fat burners out there? And my diet is very good. 5 small meals a day. Healthy, no crap

You don't need fat burners, do weights.

Lipo6 contains teh active ingredient Ephedra. According to this:
Side effects could include diarrhea, stroke, or heart attack

As far as Ephedra is concerned:
Ephedra-containing dietary supplements have been linked to a high rate of serious side effects and a number of deaths, leading to concern from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, and the medical community. However, initial efforts to test and regulate ephedra were defeated by lobbying and political pressure from the dietary-supplement industry. Ultimately, in response to accumulating evidence of adverse effects and deaths related to ephedra, the FDA banned the sale of ephedra-containing supplements on April 12, 2004.

You want to lose weight then up your exercise regime, work in some wights and vary it a bit, train smart. Check and review your diet. And unless you liek fairly serious gambles avoid the tablets.

If you're actually 12% and can't see abs you probably need more muscle. Not less fat.

Sorry, badly written, the Ephedra part came from a different page here. I didn't want to post that page initially as it's a spammy site flogging dodgy pharms.

There seem to be lots of formulations of Lipo6 around, some seem to still contain Ephedra and others that now don't but have different mixes (see here).

Pretty much no matter what is in it though I wouldn't touch the stuff

[edit] it does contain yohimbine which has the following set of warnings:
Yohimbe is a tree bark containing a variety of pharmacologically active chemicals. It is marketed in a number of products for body building and "enchanced male performance." Serious adverse effects, including renal failure, seizures and death, have been reported to FDA with products containing yohimbe and are currently under investigation.

The major identified alkaloid in yohimbe is yohimbine, a chemical that causes vasodilation, thereby lowering blood pressure. Yohimbine is also a prescription drug in the United States. Side effects are well recognized and may include central nervous system stimulation that causes anxiety attacks.

At high doses, yohimbine is a monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor. MAO inhibitors can cause serious adverse effects when taken concomitantly with tyramine-containing foods (e.g., liver, cheeses, red wine) or with over-the-counter (OTC) products containing phenylpropanolamine, such as nasal decongestants and diet aids. Individuals taking yohimbe should be warned to rigorously avoid these foods and OTC products because of the increased likelihood of adverse effects.

Yohimbe should also be avoided by individuals with hypotension (low blood pressure), diabetes, and heart, liver or kidney disease. Symptoms of overdosage include weakness and nervous stimulation followed by paralysis, fatigue, stomach disorders, and ultimately death.
