    Hi All

I recently bought a 01 A3 with 77k miles on the clock and full service history. Timing Belt & water pump was done at 60k. Have the NCT coming up in july

Anyone know of any major problems / symptoms with these with the car at this stage of its life. ?

    your help is much appreciated

I'm not aware of anything specific to the A3. The normal things like worn track rod ends and control arms would apply to a car of that age/milage. You can either get a mechanic to check it over or take a chance and let the NCT guys identify any problems. I'd chance the latter if the car is driving well.

Make sure the correct amount of oil is in the car. If it's even slightly over the max, they'll fail you on emmissions and you'll need to bring it back. Happened to me recently.

If the car is due a scheduled service then get it done irrespective of it going for the NCT.

The only preperation I would do for the NCT is to check that the tyres are within the legal thread limit and have the headlights adjusted. The majority of failures are for simple things like that which are easy to check prior to the test, other than that just send it through and let the NCT tell you needs fixing if any.
