really depends on the shipping method and if it gets checked or not.

ive bought about 10 things from the US and only got stopped for customs on a Flywheel for my Integra Type R which was €20 tax, still worked out nearly €100 cheaper than the best priced one in Eire!

My neighbour bought a load of stuff from America and it was the same, the majority of stuff got through without having to pay extra but he got stung for some of it.

I wonder if there clamping down hard on it in these recession times though?

I have a 98 Lexus GS300 (with the supra NA engine) and I buy ALL my engine/suspension parts via the states. Guaranteed to be around half the price of Irish dealers, even if I get stung for customs!

    And 100% genuine parts!

ok, ive bought a huge amount of stuff from the us over the years. Anything over 20 euro is taxable at 21.5% and that INCLUDES the cost of shipping and insurance ! If you bring in alot of stuff then 9/10 times you will get caught as apparently ur name goes on a data base. Now that were in doom n gloom they are checking as much as they can to make up money but Its easy work out how much ull pay. Or just ring customs n ask how much ud pay. Generally id say go for it but make sure the parts fit euro spec cars !

i dont mind paying some tax on it like even if i had to pay a hundred euro or so id still be making a huge saving on them i just dont want to buy them and be stuck with a bill for a few hundred euro.

how do they work out how much tax you pay is the value of the items ? sorry for all the questions just ive never bought stuff from the us before

About 90% of packages are being caught for Tax at the moment. They got very anal very quickly.

If you get them delivered to a workplace\company they tend to ignore it as they assume tax's will be paid through proper book keeping.

take the total cost... .... for arguments sake.. parts are $100 + shipping 32.49 = $132.49 (this is €100 on todays rate... )

so as said that tax is the TOTAL cost of getting it into Ireland to get 21.5% of 100 euro is €21.50.....you pay €21.50 if its checked.....

beware though.. some items are subject to duty too .. it depend the item but normally its a few percent.... like 5 !!

now .. arent you lucky like me that you dont import hazardous material... it i order a 4 (bout 118mls) oz bottle of militec oil for my subaru @ $15 ..it cost me $150 to ship it .... and i pay tax on $165 usd.. so smile .. it could be worse lol :P:P:P

If they are coming USPS you will most probably get stung for 21.5% VAT of the total, products and post, possibly say 5 or 6% import duty and a fiver or so post office clearance charge. If they come with a courier something similar except higher clearance charges. While most companies put the correct value of goods on the relevant custom forms, some mark things down so reduce the possibility of further duties or to minimise same for their clients. Good for repeat business. If you want goods sent with decent insurance they will have to put the correct value. I bring in a lot and I find anything below USD100 will get away, anything higher it is hit and miss but 8 out of 10 times, you will probably get stung.

I do believe if the car parts are used goods then there is no excise due on them! I will try find the relevant info as I am not 100% sure. My brother got alot some parts in from the US and he said this was always the case.
