So the real Dons got promoted the other day and are already ebing tipped to do the same next season which would mean League footy by september 2010!

Hard to believe this is the same club who were formed in a comunity centre less than 10 years ago.

True sotry of fan power saving the day for a region with a great history.

From the Guadian, sorry! It's a good artical though!

    Well worth a read.

It's only a matter of time before the game corrupts them as they move up through the ranks. Backroom fights, players being bought and sold (more than likely) etc.

Such is football these days and what it has become. Bring back the "record" 8.5 million transfers (Collymore to Pool .. I'm young .. sue me) which I thought were even too much!

They'll run into the same no stadium problem if they ever progress very far.

Maybe they might end up taking the stadium spurs turned down the one being built for the olympics Be easy enough to rent it about 35000 seats

    Are you for real

How the hell could a club like this be able to sustain 35000 seater stadium ?.

One reason for the old Wimbeldon moving was that there was just not enough support in the area, even the largest attendance were at Plough lane was 18000 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plough_Lane)

They might get into the football league but getting out of the bottom two divisions would be a problem.

As far as I recall the only teams who have gone up from 4th tier to 1st tier over the past decade have done so with big cash injections, Fullham, Wigan, and Hull.

I believe the AFC United and are progressing through the ranks as well, although it may be a few years before they are threatening league football. AFC Liverpool have a different ethos and purpose to the other AFCs but are still in the bottom rung having only just been created last year.

AFC Wimbledon could be bigger than the old dons ever were, there is a bit of a romantic story here and that can bring in fans if they keep progressing.

Their battle only really starts now though, from here on in it gets much tougher to progress.

Why apologise for using the best paper out there as a resource?

I'm delighted AFC Wimbledon are doing well. The whole MK Dons situation was a fiasco. Thankfully it hasn't resulted in any other franchise clubs appearing.
