Road Tyres for A MTB

    Hi,

I've a Raleigh Voyager MTB and after fixing a puncture the other day I've noticed that a bald spot is appearing on the back wheel. (the tyres are the original ones) I commute to work every day and use the bike most evenings/weekends to get from A to B and anything/everything in between. :)

A friend who cycles alot suggested I got 'road tyres' for the bike as it would be 'easier' than having the regular knobbly tyres..he's polish and I think he was trying not to confuse me.

So I've looked at Wiggle & Chain Reaction cycles..and there are soo many to chose from!

My current commute is Clontarf/Fairview to East Point, but from the end of May it will be Clontarf-Goldenbridge (with the bike sometimes taking a break at Connolly) so I need decent tyres but not too nice that someone will want to rob my bike for them.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?!?

(also if ye are feeling generous :p, after getting drenched this morning, I need a recommendation on waterproof trousers for women - the last pair I had were rugby wet training pants, which were liberated back :( )

    Thanks,
    :o

You could just get some slick Mountain Bike tires for your bike, it would make things considerably "easier" if you're on the road the whole time. Knobbly tires aren't great on roads, they're designed for offroad, you end up fighting the bike to maintain your pace. Something likes these perhaps Continental Ultra Gator Skin?

Hmm they don't look too bad :)

Think I will have to 'shop' around on the net tomorrow.

    Thanks for the suggestion!

Continental Sport Contact - bit wider than the Gatorskins. Good puncture resistance, good rolling resistance, cheap.

There'e the continental grand prix as well (26x1), makes work very easy on the road.
