Quitting work, any entitlements?

    Evening all.

I work for a UK company, earn sterling, pay tax to ireland via PAYE. Have worked for them for 10 years. I earn £36000 pa, however, I am on emergency tax rate at the mo, net pay is £2200 pm, €2300 pm.

My wife works part time (23 hrs pw) and earns €260 per week, she has worked for them for about 3 years.

    we have 2 kids (4 & 2).

It looks like my wife will need to quit work as her mother is ill and can't care for the kids anymore during workdays.

    Could anyone help with:

    1) Does she lose entitlement as she is 'quitting' as opposed to losing her job?
    2) What will she be entitled to if anything?
    3) Will this situation change over the next 2 years?

I have looked at all the listed websites, I think our situation is a little unique, therefore hard to get the detail.

    Thanks in advance.

Since your wife is quitting work to stay home with the kids, she does not fit the criteria for Jobseeker's Benefit in that she is not actively seeking nor available for work.

If she were to take care of her mother, however, she may be entitled to carer's allowance.

    Thanks for your help.

What if we stated it a different way, my wife has quit her job in order to resume caring for the kids, however, she is available for work in hours outside 8am - 6pm mon -fri?

Social welfare would probably deem that "unreasonable restrictions on working hours".
