just inherited a Pilot Digital satellite receiver....

Is this basically a paperweight without the dish or can it pick up any channels.

ps anyone know what to do with a Jerrold general instrument box, as in how to get it to search

    you need the dish.

Cable , Terresterial and Satellite use different frequencies and different modulation so you can't simply pop an aerial on the back or connect it to NTL/Chorus and have all the channels, (shame really :( )

with a dish you could get BBC / ITV / Channel4 and lots of other Free To Air channels.

Test out the box before getting a dish,
easiest way is if you know anyone with satellite then plug the box into their dish and see can it scan for channels
then once tuned you can try to align your dish your self knowing that the box is already tuned, easy enough if you have tonnes of patience and a neighbour with a sky dish you can align against

U will need a dish for the pilot box and with it you will get all the FTA satellite channels available. Well worth doing if the box is working ok.

Dont bother wasting ur time with a Jerrold box. They are for use on the chorus network so are no good to you as they contain very little channels now even when hacked which is illegal. Best thing to do with it is bring it to the recycling plant in Hegartys which is located on the tipp road...
