Hi, I was wondering would anybody be able to give some advice on how to strengthen up my upper legs (thighs). Would anyone recomend any particular excercises that would help me out.
I have damaged the cartilage in my knee and i was told that by strengthening up my upper leg this should help it.
    Your help would much appreciated.
    Thanks

Yeah, squats are great, stair climber, cycling (with resistance or uphill) even mountain hiking!

Would have thought now that running up steps would not be great for rehab. Whatever about a stairclimber, but running up steps is highly intensive impact on the knees.

Hold of on that till you get the strenght up 1st..
squats is best, then lunges if your doing well..
then add deadlifts.. start with just squats for a while..

Yeah thats what im thinkin regarding the steps...they definitly are stregthening the leg muscle but they may also be damaging the the knee joint/cartilage.....

    Cheers lads!
Cowerzep, what how many reps would you reccommend i do per day.

Ive decided to stop my normal training (muay thai) until ive got this sorted coz im only making it worse hitting pads and sparring everyday...
I want to put all my focus into sorting out the knee.

I'd start simple with 3 sets of 12 every 2-3 days, not every day and then move up to 3x12 in a couple of weeks and add in some of the other exercise, you'll be back in muay thai soon enough if you do this-i had to rehab from a broken knee a few years ago and got through it!

    plenty of stretching too..
