Going to Italy next month on holiday

Just wondering if the swine flu got a grip in Europe and travelling restrictions came in with some countries, would I be advisable to have some travel insurance ?

Does travel insurance cover you if you had to cancel your holiday because of the swine flu ?

You can only get a refund on an infectious disease fear if the Dept of Foreign Affairs recommends you not visit that country.

If you had a holiday booked to Mexico you could get your money back but not for going to Italy.

You are very unlikely to get swine flu travelling in Italy. The WHO say it actually unlikely to contract swine flu travelling in mexico but they recommened against it just in case.

The Insurance company will not be coughing up Im afraid.*

    * I worked for 2 years in an Insurance company(Travel Insurance)

You should have travel insurance anyway.

Absolutely! It's a small price to pay and when you need it, it's priceless.

Ask your insurer and/or check your policy. Nobody here can give you a difinitive answer.

Regarding Swine Flu, carefully read your policy wording. For most polices to pay out the dept. of Foreign Affairs needs to raise the warning level to 'Do not Travel'. The current status is 'Avoid non-essential travel' which means you still have the choice to go.
