Headphone jack problem in the unibody Macbooks

    Or more precisely;

    From the sounds of it, it's a problem that's been plaguing hundreds of people since they were released, including myself, but so far I've only been able to pick up on one media story relating to it.

    It's so infuriating you have no idea. Literally, if ANY outward pressure is applied on the headphone wire in the jack, it "unclicks" and the Mac switches to the internal speakers. Just plain annoying when you're listening to stuff by yourself, but horrible if you're trying not to wake anyone up or if you're in a public place.

    Apparantly the problem is that official mac headphones like the ones that comes with ipod or iphones have 3 or 4 seperate rings on the metal plug, and if you use those with the mac it slots in no problem. But practically all 3rd party headphones have only 2 rings on the plug (just like in the picture here) so it never securely fits in the jack.

    Seriously, when you pay over €1000 for a laptop, the least you expect is a properly functioning headphone jack...

    You can always opt for trouble free USB headphones. :p

    The macbooks I've used do seem to have a dislike of headphones in general.

    Why can't it used the same volume level for both the internal speakers and anything plugged in?
    Every time I plug in my headphones while something is already playing my eardrums are almost obliterated by the sudden massive volume change.

    Retarded Apple designers.

    Thought this deserved a bump to let anyone know that the problem has been fixed in the updated unibody Macbooks. I upgraded to a 13" MB Pro during the week and I've no problems with the headphone jack at all, it's built the way it should be.
