Keeping tyres black

I have a lot of trouble keeping my tyres looking good. I regularly clean the tyre walls and then use one of those foam products to make tyres look black. This is fine until the minute I drive it, they are filthy again straight away. Pic shows tyres after i drove for about 1o miles on a wet day after full cleaning........grrrr!

Is there anything that can be used to keep them looking resonably good? I dont need them to be shiny black or anything, just want them to look clean.

Dont be wasting time with any of that STP, Back-to-Black, or Black-in-a-Flash rubbish .... get this stuff. http://www.armorall.com/products/view_product.php?product_id=24&main_group=3&category_index=tire

It does exactly what it says on the tin, and lasts ages.

When I ran out I had to settle for the Meguirs version, but the Armor All one is the best - by far....

Put it on with a sponge, leave it 10 mins to dry, sit back and stick on some shades

Meguiars Endurance High Gloss Tyre Gel

Available from many motorfactors, Halfrauds and online

You really need to degrease tyres before applying a dressing. Washing them alone with a car wash shampoo will only remove dirt, but will not deep clean the rubber. Most cheap tyre dressings especially petroleum and silicone based ones will turn tyres brown quite quickly. Water based dressings are best or something like 303 Aerospace Protectant below.

Many motor factors do it but Carbrite or Autoglym (not the retail Autoglym size though) come in a drum and it's a sort of golden colour and you apply it with a paint brush is what I use. I've gotten it in factors in Windy Arbour before.

Rain is one thing that will pretty much remove tyre dressing though.

Tom's right... no point in putting on tyre dressing if the tyres are caked in crap...... I picked up a cheap bottle of cleaner & degreaser in Aldi.... works wonders.

The answer is in the question. My entire CAR is filthy after driving 10 miles on a wet day!

I notice some posters have recomended certain gels above.
Is there any difference between the gel, trigger spray, aerosol can in tyre dressings of the same brand?

(I find it easier to use the aerosol or the spray, so I'd prefer to use these).

Any idea what that product is called, and whereabouts can I find it in the Aldi store?

Sun of a gun does me the finest. The father got this tyre paint stuff from Halfords, and it really was ****e. Looked well for a few hours but just didn't work.

The soles of my shoes (also black) keep getting dirty from walking around on them all the time. Will the techniques described above help with this problem too?

I have used various products including Meguiars but found Turtle Wax Wet 'n' Black to last the longest.

Dunnes Stores had a 2 for 1 special on this recently too.

This is the stuff I use. Lasts very well and doesn't turn the wheels brown after a missing an application.

Just watch this stuff, if you don't remove any excess you will find your alloys sprayed with it. I think the gels stick better.

I bought two cleaning bits from halfords, and the lad said that if I took another, I'd get the cheapest free. I thought it was just on halfords branded bits, but AFAIK it's on all cleaning products. Handy if you were to buy that 3 step Meguirs stuff.
