Don't pay attention to what people say, larkfield is great. Sure, it's small, but it's all you need, and is great for getting to know people in first year, not to mention good craic.
I'd say you'll be fine, don't worry about it.
They said it was first come first seved, and they take distance into account, but honestly I'm not sure for this year. Anyone able to clarify, from a credible source?
I applied last year around march time, and got a place, sitting in my room in larkfield as I type.
Don't be put off by people's complaints about security, they're a bunch of gorillas, but easily ignored.
Make the most of what you get.

When did you find out whether you were offered a place?

After I'd gotten an offer, it was a few days after the cao offers came out.
    Should say somewhere on roomsatdcu.com

    Not a bother.
Heh, 'tis good to see someone else.
Ah sure I never really talk to my roommate, but I know plenty of other people around the building, hang around their places alot.
Well there's 256 rooms, 4 corridors, go figure :P it can be a bit noisy at times, but I'm sure you'll get that anywhere.
I'd reccommend it over staying off campus for your first year here.

Larkfield is sometimes the worst place in the world because afterall it is a prison :o but I'm really sad to be leaving larkfield next year cos I have some brilliant memories from it.. Its an experience and thats what DCU is all about.

Larkfield really has been the best this year, i'd recommend it for every first year, unless you don't want a social life in which case your in the wrong place.
Sure it's small and security are hitler's trained monkeys but there is the occasional sound one and it's always handy to get friendly with them, especially for bringing someone back when you don't have them signed in. I'm so glad i got hampstead for next year:)

Hampstead in first year >>>> Larkfield in first year.

Larkfield is brilliant for first years... and I don't get what people are saying it's a prison about! sure it's a little small, but how much room are you gonna be taking up really?

Other than that - it's brilliant, and great socially - my best friends I've made thanks to them being in Larkfield!

Gots to say, yeah. I've had a pretty awesome time in first year. Larkfield was perfect for me and I have to say it - if you feel you need much more room than Larkfield offers, you're probably a bit spoiled. I've made some amazing friends in first year and I had friends who got Hampstead and they had nowhere near the craic I had, so yeah. Larkfield's not that bad, at the very least.

Yeah, go to Larkfield for first year if possible.
Then across to Shanowen (Square, not Hall) for second year, and rent a house for third.
That's the way I did it, and I'd recommend it.

Im gonna be a first year and I applied for Hampstead last month. Im registered as having a disabilty so i might be more likely to get it...
I know everyone says Larkfield for 1st year but im quiet and really didn't want to share a bathroom.
Im just hoping ill be placed with fellow nerds...

Im being forced to live on campus this year but id rather rent in the city center, both my best friend and my boyfriend are going to Dun Laoighre so im hoping to be closer to them.

Take it from me, that'll only help you the first year you apply for on-campus. After that, they won't care as much, and you'll likely be thrown back into the lottery.

At least, that's what it was with me :(

Larkfield is the ****hole of campus res - it's small, you share a crap bathroom, the kitchen isn't much bigger than an airplane toilet, there's no TV, however, it's the greatest place you could possibly spend first year.

I didn't particularly get on with room mate, but I met plently of other people in the building fairly quicky. In fact, we're still talking about parties that happened in that place :)

I love larkfeild! (even though I probably can't spell it!)
Honestly one of the best things about college, apart from my lovely class of course! I was lucky enough to get an apartment with my best friend which made it so much easier for us to get on and obviously made us closer too! It's really handy for being able to just bring people who dont live on campus for a cuppa between lectures or whatever, and even though the rooms are tiny, you'll surprise yourself with how many people you can fit in there! Actually what am I saying, the rooms are quite big for a bedroom, but the fact that it's your main living space is what can make it a little claustrophobic at times.. still there are common rooms (most of the time) to watch tv or whatever. Also it kind of broadens your group of friends so you don't just end up with your class all the time.. ahhh i'm gonna miss that place... :(

Watch out in second year though.....Campus is a lottery system at that stage and they dont care where you live in the country!!

Larkers is like one big house though..great place to get to know people

Yeah, Larkfield is great for first year. It's where I made the vast majority of my friends. Great year.

    ne more experiences?:)
1st year allocation to larkfield is based on geographical location and distance from dcu right?

Larkfield is much enjoyed by simpletons and drunken morons

^ in my experience that's who makes up the majority of the populace.
Still some great people there last year.
Can't think of any reason not to live there

Re the allocation of rooms regarding distance..

The further away you live, the more likely you are to recieve a place! However, last year I was allocated my room after receiving over 500points..There was a mix up with applications (make sure you have an e-mail from campus res saying they got your application!) and I did not get a room so when I called to enquire and they had none of my details and put me on a waiting list..I told them my points situation and I got a room! Im not far from Leitrim myself and so i think that distance may have strenghtened my case also!!

As far as the place is concerned..AMAZING!!!best for first year definately!!
Its just one big house..4 doors and 256 rooms! It really is just like a big family lol! Dont worry about just sharing with one person..even if you dont get on at least you have your own room and the common rooms are the place to be!!Especially for things like desperate housewives and the likes..there will be a floor of students crammed into one!!best craic ever..

The courtyard can be noisy on big nights out but so what! You will have noise everywhere!!

It really was the best year and it made my first year of college.. I met some of the coolest people ever, not to mention some amazing new friends!

    Long live Larkfield!!!
    Good luck..:)!

^ if you get over 500 points you are automatically guaranteed a place on campus in dcu.
    Pretty good incentive imo.

There's actually 330 bedrooms [55 apts per floor, 2 bedrooms per apt, 3 floors]. But how and ever, that's the pedant in me rising to the surface.

Often the common rooms are locked by security, but honestly there's always somebody about the place =]
(except at weekends. Bear that in mind. The campus is like a ghost town after 5 on friday till sunday evening)

^ I agree. Truly excellent 9 months spent there, delighted to be on campus again
